Are nikes still bad?

I just got a pair of these http://www.snowleader.com/medias/products_tree/picture_star_2002.jpg on a good deal. it's the first time i've owned nikes. I got home and read the label and saw they're made in vietnam. Does that mean they're from one of those sweat shops? I'd feel kinda bad if it was.

are Nikes still seen as bad by most people?

If you are looking for a pair of sneakers that aren't made in any sweat shop, well, good luck. For my part, I got 7 pairs of nikes, all different, and no, they are not bad, I don't see your point! Maybe they are made by sweat shop, but they fuckin kill it at making shoes!

When have they fucked themselves? France controlled them forever, and then all of a sudden they're fighting a crazy civil war that the U.S. got way, way too involved in.

That's a stupid analogy, it's not like we offered them 10 cents to make shoes or any other goods and they willingly accepted. They don't have anything better, they never have, because of stupid foreign policy decisions by other countries.

Yes i think it is ok nowadays... nike has had a bad rep in the past, but they have stepped up their game....

I watched a documentary on it sometime ago - it seemed pretty interesting

The workers get something really small, like only a few dollars a day, but that is more than farmers earn and other factory workers earn there. also they have strict policies on workers being over 16 etc... and have put money into education and schooling, they have some sort of management structure that allows even the lowest earners to one day become the manager of the factory

A few dollars goes a loooooooooong way in places like vietnam, so the workers are earning above the minimum wage for their country...


But do i agree with cheap labour? no i don't, but everything from clothes, shoes, even skis are made in the far east, but at least nike are trying!

Nike WAS a bad company for that but now they are one of the global leaders in corporate social responsibility. It doesn't work like that anymore, if companies fuck around like then they get screwed by consumers and the media.

Currently Nike and GAP, both really bad for the whole sweatshop thing in the past have huge plans dedicated to making the working conditions better. Neither will agree to work with a factory before extensive background checks and then they have frequent random screenings.

Im wearing them today and they're gooood. i still feel a bit bad that some poor kid from phnom pen is making hundreds of shoes a day for a dollar. oh well.. he did a good job with these ones lol
