Nike getting ready to make ski boots?

I've always had good luck with nike, and with the recent trend of them supporting action sports athletes I wouldnt be surprised. Do they make snowboard boots? I think they would take that step first to see how the reaction is and then if that is successful move to ski boots. Assuming they fit, I would be more than willing to try out a pair of nike ski boots, like I said, I've always had luck with them and think they put out a great product.

They make board boots, my dad has some. And with the new 6.0 outerwear and stuff, I wouldnt be suprised if they started making boots sometime fairly soon.

Nike got a bad rap when they entered the skate boarding market years ago because they are a large corporation. but they signed P-Rod and that all went away.
I find it tough to hate on Nike because they are dedicated to making quality athletic products. they wont enter a market until they know they have a high quality product.
im sure its only a matter of time before they start making ski boots. they are a smart company and why wouldnt they want to get a piece of that market. as long as they fit good i would try them. i bet they will make some fresh colors too!

Nike's snowboard boots were pretty lacking the first few seasons, but the latest kaju's are pretty sick, and all of my buddies swear by them over thirtytwo's and other brands. I don't know if I'd buy them simply because I'd rather support a brand that's always been with skiing.

I would buy a pair if they fit well. Nike has always put out good shit, and I can't imagine that ski boots would be any different.

One of the advantages of being a vastly successful company like Nike, is that you have an absurd amount of dough to throw at R&D. In addition, being able to buy patents and hire the most talented and innovative desginers/riders/consultants lends itself to quickly being able to churn out qualtiy products— even if they don't know much or have a lot of hands-on experience in a particular market. I have no doubt in my mind that if Nike decided to enter the ski boot fray, that they'd emerge as one of the forerunners in both quality and innovation.

Yeah I heard about this a couple months ago.  Never really made the connection to ski boots though.  even though they are somewhat similar in how they are made.   I could really see this happening since they are making motocross boots now.   Motocross boots require a mold to be used when being made.  Since they need a mold it would be so easy to be able to make ski boots. 

i would absolutely buy a pair of nike dunk ski boots!

It would make sense. Companies are always looking to keep growing and increase profits.

On the other hand, is the ski market truly profitable enough to be provide the ROI needed to entice Nike to enter into that product segment?

While in the past, Nike was able to sneak some pretty terrible things past the consumers to make an extra buck, it simply cant work like that anymore, as the world is far too connected for things like that to get by. Therefore, in order to dominate the market, you have to do things right, and Nike definitely has. Ive been wearing the same pair of cheap 30 dollar 6.0s as my daily drivers for over 2 years now, and they look practically new. So while at one point I swore I would never own Nikes, they have def. turned things around, and have won me over.

And back to the quoted post^, your soooo right. why do you think the new full tilts are based off some eastern european knock off? because they are cheap, and making ski boots is INCREDIBLY expensive, and full tilt doesnt have the budget to go all out yet (props to them tho for doing what they can, and for bringing back a classic, thats def. not intended as hate). I'm an industrial designer, and lemme tell you, the tooling that goes into a BASIC injection molded part usually starts about 40-50 K. now, when you factor that into a fairly large and complex part like a ski boot, which requires multiple actions for the removal of the cores, your looking at a price in the hundreds of thousands, per mold. Now, multiply that by a full size range, and your talking about a multi-million dollar investment, JUST for tooling.

While in one sense, it could definitely hurt hardcore ski companies if a company like Nike entered the game, it could also definitely benefit us, as they would certainly be able to bring to market some crazy new shit, that smaller companies just dont have the $$ to develop, or the $$ to RISK attempting to develop. and really, while it could be viewed as a "takeover" of a core sport, it would also mean that we've blown this shit up into something thats worth Nike getting into, and that, as an industry is a success. And if you dont like that, stop being a badass skier, and actin thug as shit, cause thats what sells, and is whats cool, and thats whats made this sport grow so fast.

If nike enters the ski game, I say pat yourself on the back, cause we made it this shit what it is today, and that would be a HUGE win.

I doubt nike would go into the hard goods side of skiing until the market is a little bit bigger. If they did make a ski boot it would be taking them back to their roots. hmmmmm...where did the idea of a air bag come from? that's right from a Lange ski boot.
