As for the thread, weed has been supposedly getting legalized forever. People voted for Obamas dumb ass over this issue. I told them it wasn't going to happen. Then he bailed it like you could have expected.



All drugs should be legal. It's not even the moral issue of good or bad. (Which it should still be left up to you're personal choices regardless) The fact is the drug war does not work. Not only are the drugs just as prevalent as ever, but now your entertaining a massive market with a shitload of $ to be made. this adds to all kinds of crimes. DEA raves about a big drug bust. Yet now they put a guy in prison, and theres  more guys in his place. The drug war is helping to fill the gangs pockets with $.


Also the fact that if all drugs were legal, the number of overdoses would drop, the amount of people dying from bad drugs would pretty much vanish. Lets face it, we spend around 50 billion dollars a year and imprison thousands of people, and it's not in the slightest way working. Not even getting into the CIA and the potential yao smuggling in 80s to fund the farc army in nicaraqua trying to overthrow sandinista.

Drug war = bullshit. But we're heading into a war of more control not less, so drugs becoming legal is unlikely

what you are failing to realize is the cops still have the authority to ticket and confiscate from some people (people who don't have their green card) right now under state law. If this is passed, there will be no state law against having pot, and considering that those taxes will be going towards paying for things like cops, why would they try to do extra work for the federal government, when doing so gets in the way of their pay? Right now with the medical situation, I am sure that pot is a pain in the ass for them, and they get money from busting and ticketing people. If legalization were to happen, it would be the other way around, it would not be their job to enforce anything about weed, and the state would be making money from the pot.

Well right now it isn't their job to enforce federal laws concerning medical marijuana and it doesn't help them to and they do anyway pretty much just to be dicks. And I highly doubt that people with med cards are a huge annoyance to police. They politely walk in and out of a store and smoke at home. The clubs also provide their own security and the police chief of Los Angeles recently stated that they do not produce very much crime at all and that they are less likely to get robbed than banks.

No, I wasn't saying that the people with cards themselves are a pain in the ass to the cops, what I mean is that the fact that there are some people who they are supposed to bust, and that there are others who can legally posses it is a pain in the ass. If it was legalized, they wouldn't have to concern themselves with weed at all, they could just let the federal government do what they will while they go about their productive police work instead of worrying about all of the grey area surrounding weed now.

There really is no grey area. There is no incentive for them to bust med card holders. It is actually illegal for them to bust med card holders technically. The police in California have been issued "memos" that marijuana users should be considered a very low priority. At the (state) government and bureaucratic levels they really don't care who smokes weed. Cops just bust people smoking weed because they are fucking dicks. Even if it gets legalized, if cops have the ability to dick you on it, they will. I mean, I guess some cops really do have a fucked up morality and think that busting pot heads is cleaning up the scum of society, but if that isn't the case, then they have to be doing it purely to be a dick. Most would probably argue that they are just doing their jobs. But when it comes to busting medical patients they are not doing their job. This means they either do not understand the legality of the situation which would mean they are incompetent, or they just like being dicks. Honestly for a lot of them it probably is incompetence.

I wouldnt be surprised if the bill got passed and weed became legal but i doubt that it will lead to other states legalizing it...atleast not any time soon. cali is a ballin state that has to be the first to do everything there are super liberal and are pretty much the cool hip teenager of the states if you know what i mean.

I honestly think the "legalizing weed will put dealers out of business" theory is a crappy idea.

It will just allow entrepreneurs to build smoke shops, new tobacco shops, or expand pipe shops. On top of the actual legal marijuana distribution and supply business that would exist. In other words, it would only create jobs.

Since supppposedly we don't lock up non violent marijuana offenders (BS), we wouldn't actually lighten the burden on the jail system THAT much. The only place I see the impact is probation officers whose livelihood is based on monitoring 290 potheads, and 14 real criminals.

anyone who thinks that legalizing marijuana will stop people slangin chron is a fucking retard. there will ALWAYS be private growers who will undercut the government prices because there will be money to be made there. and guess what? where there is large amounts of money to be made, there will be crime. i think it will be significantly less than there is now, but it will definitely still exists.

and you say that the probation system is chocked full of stoners, but you don't think the prison system isn't too?

Didn't Obama pass something that made it illegal to bust shops under federal law? I forget, or maybe it still goes on? Also, just out of curiosity, how much do you guys w cards pay for a 1/4, 1/2, or ounce at the shop?

Back in the day ( a few years ago), prices sucked. $25 grams and $70 1/8's were not uncommon. Anything that came from a club was automatically considered better than street weed, we didn't know any better at the time and got ripped off for a while. However, the sheer massive number of new dispenseries that have opened in the past few years has created tons of competition and driven the prices way down.

Personally my establishment has daily 5 grams for $50 deals, the strains rotate but are always quality. Many places now are "45 caps" which means nothing in the store is over $45 per 1/8. You get ridiculous amounts of free weed, I remember I went to this one club, and for being a first time patient, I got a lighter, pipe, edible, joint, 1/8 of quality bud, and blunt wrap. All fo free.

Ounce prices vary dramatically, I've paid as little as $90 for an ounce of shake (bluuuuuuuuuuuunts), and seen ounces of top shelf for $450-$500. There really is no reason to pay that much though, its all about shopping around, and you can easily find quality meds for like $250-$300 per ounce. The great thing is you can look at a lot of menu's for these places on the internet so you just do research on the computer and drive down to whoever has the best deal. There are literally hundreds of places to chose from. Maybe even 1,000 now.

i guess that sounds about right, when i lived in tahoe i heard good and bad things about pricing. Its too bad its not much much cheaper, i guess that price would be ok if I had a card, the convenience its a price i would pay for. All i know is when i lived in tahoe, 220-240 was the most i payed for an ounce, and it was top top notch stuff. 300 was something unheard of for anything. Beats 400+ for one now in MN and its weird ass laced stuff that doesn't smell.

I would be scared if it became legalized of what the gov would do tax wise. Id be scared of prices just skyrocketing. Or it could have the opposite affect bc of a higher demand and ease of availability.

Haha what a stupid thing to say. People aren't going to stay in the black market when it's perfectly legal to obtain something. The government isn't going to set prices on shit, there are going to put taxes on it like anything and then those taxes are going to be passed on to the consumer or producer depending on how it is set up.

Are their still bootleggers? Of course not. Because legitimate business are controlled and regulated and are perfectly legal. And saying that prices are going to be ridiculous when cannabis is legalized is just another stupid thing to say. Prices are already ridiculous right now. You pay $50 for 3.5 grams of a flower that just happens to get you high. Prices are absurd because of the black market and the risks that have to be taken in order to get the illegal product into the hands of the consumers.

Growers will eventually find their break even points and the market will decide the prices, the government won't have any say over prices besides all the stupid taxes put on it. And that's all up to legislators so if enough people oppose the high sin taxes they won't be enacted.

Meg Whitman vs. Jerry Brown

Turnout should be pretty good, I think... especially in places like the Bay Area where Jerry Brown is extremely popular, and where such a marijuana initiative would receive most of it's support from... a high turnout from the bay area would be crucial to this.

Either way, election should end up being a tossup... Meg Whitman has a lot of support, and has a LOT of money... Jerry Brown has a lot of support, one of the strongest political legacies of any politician, and has served in the office before...

Unless one of them screws up... this thing could be closer than Florida 2000...
