Pretty exciting stuff. I think most if not all politics are evil so I don't vote but I have to say I will actually be registering just to participate in this ballot. I'll probably literally skip everything else and only vote on that. Honestly we have had things like this before and it probably won't pass but hopefully with the shitty economy we got going on right now people will realize that it could take a good sized burden off the state's money crisis.
However, even if it does pass, it will be interesting to see how it is handled by local law enforcement. I am a patient myself and have received tickets and had my medication confiscated despite providing my doctor's recommendation to the officer. The case however was dropped once it got to court. That is pretty much how things work right now, the cops pretend the law doesn't exist, and the courts let you off. Its fine for now but what is going to happen when every single weed charges in California are just getting dropped, surely there would be no point in them even enforcing it anymore.
If we start selling it at liquor stores, are the stores going to be raided by DEA? Are the landlords of the establishments going to receive letters telling them that they are committing a crime by allowing a shop in their complex to sell a legal substance? Thats what its like right now, the Federal Government pays no attention to the state's stance on the subject. Even though California law officials are specifically forbidden to enforce any federal law when there is a California law contradicting it, they do it anyway.
Also, many of your states will not have that law forbidding federal laws being enforced over state ones, so how is that going to turn out.
Anyway, will probably fail, but some things to think about for the future.
