oh, also its funny how the guy who scored your game winner there came to America to play pro hockey, along with most of all the other players on the team. you know..i mean its the national hockey league...as in, we let Canada have a few teams in there just for fun.

What doesn't make sense to me is how those American hockey teams survive. I mean, look at Tampa Bay for example, don't they offer sets of season tickets for around $500? Don't they give free tickets in cases of beer. How can they possibly make a profit on this and still provide enough funding for their salary year after year.
And on the same note: Phoenix Coyotes. Here you have the second best team in the western conference and you are selling tickets at $30. However, this ticket also includes all you can eat  hot dogs, pretzels, peanuts and nachos. Why do Americans always need such an incentive to eat? Maybe it should be something like "buy the $30 ticket to the Coyotes game and get a free membership at Jenny Craig"

come on now, lets use some common sense before making such ignorant posts.

canada has 30 million people, usa has 300 milliion. id hope that a bigger country would win more medals.

canada won 14 golds, usa won 9. meaning that were the best, in 5 more sports than the usa. but you did clean up in silvers in bronze. congrats on being 2nd and 3rd best.

crosby didnt choose to go to america to play, he was drafted by an american team. meaning they had the rights to him, if he wanted to play in the nhl, he had to play for pittsburg. maybe if you knew anything about pro sports, and how they worked, you'd understand why crosby plays for an american team.

I actually really, really understand sports. He plays for the NATIONAL (as in American) hockey league. Its weird that your top national sport cant even have a top notch league, your players HAVE to play for American teams if they want to be premier players.

Your point about golds is irrelevant, we are talking overall here...not specific victories.

30 million vs. 300 million? okay? fuck off, don't be making claims about how your country is better if you cant hold up to population differentials. shit, Israel only has 8 million and they can hold it down against almost anyone....

First Stanley cup won in the NHL: Toronto Arenas (Canadian)
Cups won by American teams: 40
Cups won by Canadian teams: 49
Currently, America has 24 out of 30 teams in the NHL, and Canada has 6.

Theoretically, Canada should have 20% of the Stanley cups, based on how many teams we have. We have 55%.

I wouldn't be so quick to assume the nationality of the league is american

Hmmm...good try, but I sense some failed math here.  I'm pretty sure that the NHL has not always had 30 teams, and I'm pretty sure when it was first founded all the teams were Canadian for several years.  So the ratio of how many each country should have that you calculated is off.  If it were recalculated I would guess that Canadian teams would still have the higher ratio but since it is 2 am I am not going to do this right now.  I'm glad the Canadian school system is so good...
