Yeah a bike park and one of the summit county resorts is puting in a "mountain coaster" which is like a bobsled on a roller coaster track. Its not realistic for summit county resorts to have a summer long park, with a good amount of snow they could no doubt have one in May and June but the melt is gonna take a serious toll after that. And summit county hasn't had crap for snow this year, hopefully copper has been making lots of snow for their woodward park.
oh my god, that would be sooo dope! i hope the rumors are in fact true, and hopefully i can use my season pass to go. if they made you pay because its different then that'd make it less legit.
They're going to open up I-70 on memorial day weekend. No idea on features yet. But the park lift will be going as well. Probably going to be a separate lift ticket/pass. Looking through the park, hopefully they'll push the halfpipe into a 2 jump line or something (note: just speculation).
If memorial day weekend goes well, they'll keep doing it. Not sure if it'll just be weekend or not.
Wow, you never cease to amaze me. First the thread threatening to pull skiers passes for going too fast, and now this?
Let's see, they run mountain biking all summer on lifts. Nearby Copper Mountain, also on leased national forest, runs a ski camp most of the summer as well. Why couldn't they run their lift for skiers?
Don't say their lease doesn't allow them to, like the "reason" they close mid April. If you work for Vail Resorts you should be the first to know they don't shut down for National Forrest reasons... Keystone closes mid April because they don't make any money.
They can and most likely will try this summer park, at least for memorial day weekend. I've heard this from multiple park crew members, many of whom are planning to work in the summer park.
well Vail has to shut down for elk breeding season or migration. Could be the same for keystone and then they reopen the lifts later in the summer. I heard that they were going to farm and cover up the snow and then reopen once the breeding season ends. Would like to hear some real info not just rumors.
The National Forest Service DOES say when they have to close. They give them a permit to be able to operate from time "A" to time "B". Just like my friend that owns a large snowmobile operation in Breck, the Forest Service Says when he stops.
They also have insurance policies on their mountain, which run out once past a certain amount of time. The renewal of these policies isn't cost effective really.
Mountains like Timberline make money on this, so they do it. However, Keystone probably would not make any money. In the same situation, my home mtn of Big Bear has PLENTY Of snow to stay open for at least another month and a half, but are closing April 18th, because of the insurance they have.
not happeneing, this directly from nick:
