UW or UBC

Newschoolers. choose where I go to college.  My top choices are the University of Washington and University of British Columbia.  Im leaning towards UBC but I want to hear what youve got to say.  I also got into UVM and CU boulder.  Im waiting to hear back from Reed College and Middlebury.

What do you want to go into and what are the big things you are looking for? I go to UBC and love it, mostly because I love Vancouver and how close I still am to Whistler and home. Pretty much the only thing I have found wrong with UBC so far is that there gym is terrible, everything else (faculty dependent) is amazing. I could tell you more specifics if your looking for it!

Vancouver is great for location to mountains, but the city itself is fairly cookie cutter. I've enjoy my time at UBC, but if you want parties and the more traditional frat parties and wet t-shirt experience UW might be better.

BUt I think both are good options, but whistler is dope

UBC - 2 hour drive to whistler

UW - 1.5 hr to snoqualmie or stevens pass. Also Chrystal mountain insto too far either.

WWU - 45 min drive to baker or 2 hr to stevens

Pretty undecided about what I want to study. All of these schools have programs that I might be interested in. I'd like to be at a school that is close to skiing, has a good party scene (legal weed would be great) and has nationally recognized academics. Also at least 5,000 undergrads. Ideally this school would have d3 soccer but most d3 schools are less than 5,000 students so soccer probably wouldn't work out.

To add on that, UBC does have the local mountains (seymour, grouse and cypress) 35 mins away.

I would think that all these school make your standards. Except most Canadian schools wouldn't have D3 (NCAA?) sports. With the exception of SFU which is also in the Van area.

I think UBC's soccer is CIS, which would probably compare to a D2 NCAA team

locals were open for like 12 days this year, and from what Ive heard its not getting better this season

I don't think anywhere in western canada/ US had snow this year, this includes: baker, crystal and snoqualmie. This year was fairly abnormal and hopefully not to be repeated.

We can speculate about next season, but all western mountains will probably have the same outcome.

true enough, I guess I'm still just bitter that I moved here this winter and got no snow lol

good friend of mine has been at UBC for 3 years now, loves it. And dude, the skiing is just amazing over there. Plus Vancouvert is an awesome town, like 70% students i think? Depends what you do academically really, but in terms of skiing, definitely UBC. pow pow pow pow

You're better off picking the best school for academics and INTERNSHIPS, even if it has smaller mountains nearby. 4 years of Gnar skiing is nothing compared to 4 years of pretty dope skiing followed by being able to buy a mountain condo or house near the mountains and ski for the rest of your life/pay for skiing for your kids and possibly wifey.

All US schools are going to have a party scene, some have a better variety than others.

Life is pay to play once you're an adult! don't fuck it up by selling yourself short in college.
