Are you aware of the fact that your the only western country without government run health care?
Just wondering.

PS: If I got injured or needed medical care in any way, and I knew that I could now mean serious cash in someones pocket, I would not feel safe. How do you know that your well being is the main focus, not the profit? I mean, these are corporations, there objective is to make cash. They're not bloody Mary Poppins.

Sorry, I guess I forgot that "making bank" is all that matters in todays world. That is what "Americas capitalistic environment" has preached, and all it does is allow people to become rich and exploit the weaknesses of others. Not that all people are like that, take Salk for example, he was already a wealthy scientist so decided he didnt need to make millions off of polio, instead he decided to be a nice guy. And capitalism has always been about exploiting others. You could never have a country like you do without getting natural resources for dirt cheap by exploiting workers in third world countries. It is a system that developed in middle-age europe and has led to the destruction of cultures and the enslavement of millions. I know im sounding like the harbringer of death here, but I guess its more about what your values are, with capitalism you can be rich but at the expense of exploiting the weaker or less lucky. Not that I am unhappy with what has come out of capitalism, just think that it could have come about in other ways. And honestly, as long as you recognize that without third world countries to pick on the west could not survive as it does then that is fine by me, its better to be educated and have an opinion than not know in the first place.

it has also led to the doubling of the length of the average human life within the past 150 years, (high 30's around the civil war, high 70's now) raised forms of transportation, entertainment, a much more connected world, the exchange of ideas instantly, and much more

we are the best at many extremely technical procedures which is a great thing but we are behind many first rate countries at simple procedures which affect many more people. i'm not saying that the bill will fix this but our system needs improvement

I really hope that you are referring to capitalism and not the US being responsible for that...
And either way you need to think before you post.

Of course the life expectancy was low around the time of the civil WAR. Disease runs rampant during wars and takes a huge toll on the average life span, and cant forget the casualties, famine, poverty and suicides associated with war era's. If i remember correctly there was a huge outbreak of cholera (i want to say it was even the cause of death of a US president in the mid 1800's can;t remmber who was president then though).

Also, its not like the life expectancy has always hovered around 30 up until the mighty USofA and capitlaism arrived on the scene. Mid 2nd millenium some islamic states were as high as 45-60 years, and avg life expectancy for upper class citizens could reach 60-70 (due to amazing medical science developed by the muslims)

And the average lifespan in Africa is still terrible compared to the west. And it's not like we don't have the ability to fix that, it is just that current capitlist ideology dictates why do that if we can't profit from it? (not realizing that one could indeed profit from it later, as you would most likely be considered for preferable trade) And why profit be made right now from it? Most likely because of the raping of raw materials and the corruption that occurs, much of which can be attributed to western colonialism.

And as I said, I am not unhappy with what capitlaism has brought, I just think that it could occur without the exploitation of the poor as it has left a HUGE gap between the rich and the poor. Really, society has progressed very little as we live in pretty much a feudal system that is run by corporations and governments instead of a lord.

and since the US is the most prominent pure capitalistic country, yes, this can all be accredited to the us. no other country has pushed the frontier of medical advancements more

right, my factual logic is flawed. your logic is that since britain invented things that america used to invent better things, britain gets all the credit. the only points you have made are

1. century old inventions of other nations when i clearly in simple written english said "the vast majority of inventions WITHIN THE PAST 50 YEARS" or something like that

2. that you must be blind, stating your opinion without backing it up in any way

3. the world is on par with the USA's inventions

all i said was the vast majority of the inventions within the past 50 years

and guess what, if youre gonna bring up inventions older than 50 yrs, then the airplane, internet, the majority of post wwii medical advancements, entertainment, much of the automobile industry, communications technology such as cell phones, IMing, and skype, are up there with insulin and the jet engine

name me an invention of another country and i will name you 5 from the us

Go to page one. You claim that cellphones, computers, and blackberry's are US inventions. I'm not quite understanding who you are suggesting the credit go to for inventions? The first legitimate working product? The latest advancement? The Japanese were the first to setup a working commercial cellular network, followed by sweden. Computers were not a US invention either. Some consider the abbicus a computer, but either way the first "modern" computer was built in germany. Blackberry's are Canadian, its ok though. I can understand that because you get most of your information from shitty websites and entertainment tonight that you would assume that because the President preaches "buy american" and has a blackberry that it would BE a US invention. Also, youtube was not the first of its kind, it just had better marketing (and still isnt up to par with vimeo, just has better marketing and more $).

I guess I will stop now, come back and let me know when you graduate highschool (evident from your illogical arguments and use of terrible internet website sources for "papers"). You are probably one of those upper class white kids born into a rich family with a military background.

All of this was unnecessary really, but I decided to be mature about it . I could have easily just said:

"Hey, speak up, I cant hear you from all the way down there on the HDI"

alright, so i got a few examples wrong. you still get the main argument, and you have done nothing to refute it. all you can say is that it's illogical, and instead of providing your own points, you decide to call me names, make assumptions about me, and nitpick at examples. also, if you read the thread at all, you know where my dad comes from. my mom came from the same sorta background, and she also earns within the top 5% of the usa

do you have any proof that japan is more technologically advanced? they may create awesome electronics and all, but america still owns this in medicine, military, and revolutionary inventions

youre missing my point completely because you dont know how to read. yes, 50 years may limit the US' list of inventions, especially some of the revolutionary ones, but my point is not that the US has at one point created these, it's that within the past 50 years the US has created so much more than other countries. DO YOU GET IT NOW?

Andy, didn't we already have this discussion about how the U.S invented everything?  I thought we concluded that they even invented inventing things?   We went so far as to say that the U.S has actually invented so much in comparison, that pretty much everyone else is so terrible at inventing things, that they deinvented things?  In the process, a new word was even invented.  That is just how good the U.S is at inventing.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.  China.  Hope you can still speak at least one form.  They do, afterall, essentially own you.  What's your GDP to debt ratio again?  Yeah, unabated capitalism is doing wonders.  Oh who cares if you use 10  times more resources per capita than the world average.  You're USA, and you invented resources.

Last time I checked, Hong Kong was the most capitalist society in the world, not the U.S.  You can find this on wikipedia as well, wouldn't you know.  I'd also argue that China has a more free free market economy than you, if that is what you are concerned about.

I also find it funny that we in the west, not just the U.S., still think we enjoy so much "freedom."  Manufactured consent is accomplishing what many a regime never really could.  I'm not even pointing at the government here.  It's soceity's doing.
