Help! Roman rule in Egypt

I know this is a longshot but does any know anything about the Egypt under Roman rule? I need to write a huge essay on how they manipulated the material culture of Egypt but I can't even come up with a damn thesis.

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated....

what exactly do you mean by "material culture"? i think that a good place to start would be with cleopatra and mark antony. she was egypt's last "pharaoh", after her death egpyt became a roman providence..

the roman city of alexandria would also be a good example. it was located at the mouth of the nile and had the lighthouse at alexandria which was one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world, also the library of alexandria was/is the most famous library ever.


i know this is a wiki page but it might help out a bit...

I think I am misinterpreting the concept of material culture. The romans introduced hospitals, sugercane, and coin currency to egypt, do all of these qualify as material culture?

The term "material culture" is often used by archaeologists as a non-specific way to refer to the artifacts or other concrete things left by past cultures. An archaeologist thus can be described as a person who studies the material culture of a past society.


yeah if this is a correct definition then i would say that all those things fall under it...

talk about the library in alexandria it is one of the...if not the biggest libraries in the world...it is the oldest..besides the remodeling which keeps it standing...and it is a hugeee roman influence in egypt...ive been there its sick so huge

The library of Alexandria was founded previously than the Roman conquest of Egypt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Library_of_Alexandria)
