New skis on a summer setup?

Does using new skis on a summer set up with soap and water do any particular damage that would not usually be done from seshing rails in the winter? have you guys noticed your skis going to shit faster during the summer?

just watch for screws and such. if you don't hit those your fine. and if your on PVC. you will do more damage to the PVC then it could ever do to your skis. it far softer.

it is 100% bad for your skis and your bindings. if there is any small amount of dirt that gets on the turf (its impossible not to...) , or on the rail at all it will completely scratch up your bases from the friction, and if it gets in your bindings it can really fuck them up. Not to mention the fact that the soap will completely dry out your bases and make your skis super slow in the future, even if you try to wax them afterwards. if its a new pair of skis you really like i would definitely avoid using them on a summer setup.

isn't hitting a metal rail worse than riding over a bit of dirt for the bottom of your skis at least?
that's a serious question since i was unaware dirt was so bad.

yeah to some extent. the thing is when you slide metal you're only on the rail for a little bit. when you get dirt on your skis the little grits of it dig into your base on everything you slide on, turf, rail and landing. plus dirt is nearly impossible to get completely off and covers your whole base, not just underfoot

i used new skis and didnt have any issue...just clean them up really well after ever session and keep some wax on the bases..youll be fine

Hose your skis and bindings down well after every session, getting dirt and shit out of your boot buckles is a good idea too.  I don;t use soap but I've never had any problems on my summer setup

WAX!





if you dont want your skis to literally stick to the snow next season, be sure to wax them every 4 or so seshes. this will keep your bases healthy and those pores filled so that you wont have to deal with those preseason speed issues

sold my old park skis... i have blends 100 underfoot which work fine just a bit harder for swing weight... i just bought some volkl walls as my new park ski.
