Why pay for a site that is free? It's bad enough we have to deal with the lame pop out adds that cover the screen. I can see if they want to advertise but they don't need to charge for the app.
Because someone hundreds if not thousands of hours were put in to designing the program. Give a little respect and support someone that has put so much effort into something. Seriously, you are complaining about $1.99 to access a great UI NS that enables you to surf NS from anywhere you have a cell signal. Please give a little respect, please.
It has nothing to do with respect. Why would I spend money if I can just go on my phones browser and access that "anywhere you have a cell signal"? MS'ers is just trying to make an extra buck I think.
Ns sucks on the iphone browser, you cant hover over the forums/pictures/video etc drop down menus and then click something in the menu, it just doenst work well. 1.99 is nothing. Think about how much money you spend on weed, or fast food or whatever. A red bull costs more than the NS app, and you get a lot more form the NS app IMO, and it doesn't make you tweak.
it will be worth it once everything available on the browser can be found in the app. Right now i believe its only the forums and pictures..get videos on board and im sold.
Are you fucking kidding me? Support the small dev team and buy it. NS is mos likely losing money on this; they make most of their money through ads. The app has none. New functionality coming next update!
I actually don't pay for my skis. I think you fuck tards are missing what I am saying. No surprise here though, its NS. Fucking morons. "support a company that has a free website" ya fuck that.
You know what, I don't really care that I payed 1.99 for the app. It's a lot easier to use than the browser and I feel like I helped out the creator and supported NS. (Although I think apple gets 20 or 30% of the revenue)
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Personally, I think the app has a lot more function than the browser. And the app was also something that has been asked for by the members for a little while now. And thegreyarea put a lot of time and effort into making this happen, so the last thing he needs is to sign on and see some whiny kid bitching about how he doesn't want to pay for something that was created for the members, asked for, by the members.
The software cost money, and since only one person took the initiative to make it fuck yes he should make a buck off of it. Your out of your mind if you think that people are going to spend months and a few hundred dollars of their own money on projects and then hand them out for free. This is seriously the most simple concept I've ever had to explain to a literate human being.
Example: any professional engineering journal/study/document I use for research cost about $25 on average.
I know right?!?!? I know this one guy Bill Gates who just got with his friend and just spent a few hours making some stupid software and sold it instead of giving it out for free!!!! Those fucking douchebags!!!!!
I laughed at this but OP your an idiot sure i respect your opinion by why would you even bother making an NS hate thread on NS.... Also the point of apps is so that it's much quicker and more compatable to the iphone. It takes forever for big pages in the forums to load through the browser. And also if you don't pay for anything apparently wouldn't your parents pay for the app.
You aren't donating to the site though, so it wouldn't make sense to give you a donator symbol. In buying the app you aren't helping NS out, you're buying better functionality for your phone. If you want to donate and give them some beer money go ahead and send $5 their way for ya symbol haha
And seriously, if you can afford an iPhone, you can't really complain about $1.99!
Every time you load a page on NS, you are paying them. How? You see those annoying flashy things to the right of and above this post? They are called advertisements. Companies pay Newschoolers to allow them to post them on the page. Those things pay for the Admins' time and the server. Believe it or not even Doug Bishop needs money. If you quit bitching and bought the app, you would notice that it lacks annoying flashy things because there's not much room on the iphone screen. Therefore I fond it perfectly reasonable to charge for the app. $2 is probably a lot less than what they might lose in advert money. Also, you seem to have no idea how much work computer programming is (it's a lot of work). Not many people are willing to do it for nothing. Even free software is ad-supported or asks for donations.
iNS is an app that was created by a few very dedicated individuals who wanted to see an app get created. They have poured a lot of time and effort (which if you have the slightest idea of how the real world works, time is equal to money, however, this thread makes me think that you do not have much of an idea how the real world works) into creating an app. These individuals are not admins for NS and are certainly not getting rich off creating iNS.
Secondly, you are not required to purchase iNS to use Newschoolers.com. Noone is forcing you to purchase the app. It is nothing different than a t-shirt, lanyard, or sticker pack in the store; if you like it and have a use for it, you may buy it. If you do not wish to buy it, then you aren't obligated to purchase it.
If you feel that $1.99 is too much for iNS, then that is your opinion, and feel free to either create your own Application for a mobile NS, or continue to use Safari to access the site on the go.
I couldn't agree more OP. It makes me sick when I see Adam and Doug rolling around in their matching Rolls Royces drinking $20,000 glasses of scotch and burning hundred dollar bills for kicks. They'll never get those two bucks from me. Instead, I'm going to spend the money on a cheeseburger.
