you gotta love the ignorance of some people. you could consider that its "buying" friends, which is an incredibly uneducated way of making an argument by using something out of context.
I look at it like this. My fraternity has 74 people in it. We all have to pay around $1000 a year in dues. essentially i have a great group of friends whom get to spend around 75k a year to do whatever you want. Dont even try to tell me you wouldnt enjoy that.
Your argument about not liking all of the brothers or not knowing them is flawed as well. The way joining a fraternity works is you have to choose which one you would like to pledge at. Because of this, if you dont like the people you chose to be with, well thats your problem and i dont have sympathy for you. HOWEVER, if your given and bid, that means they want you, and if you accept it, that means you want to get to know them.
trust me,you HAVE to know all of the brothers. And they will become some of the best friends you have in life
Different strokes for different folks if you will. Im not saying that you should join one, i just feel that most people hate on them when they really have no idea what their about.
That being said, i go to a small school where fraternities are different then at a large school, but just my 2cents
its honestly been one of the best decisions ive ever made
