Whats the point of helmets?

how do they work? theyre still hard on the inside so when you smash your head wont it just hit and equally hard surface and spill your brains everywhere? i guess it could act as some sort of bowl to contain the mess, but other than that it seems dumb.

i usually just wear a hat because it is softer than a helmet and will do more good.

Helmets have padding in them, they protect your head. Instead of your skull splitting on a rail, the helmet might crack, but at least you have your intelligence.

just think of it this way,  if i was to take your head and repeatedly smash it as hard as a could against a rail it would fuck your shit up.  now let me do that to you with a helmet on, it might give you a headache and be annoying but you wont be dead.  but seeing as you posted this maybe somebody already did the first one to you?

you should experiment...Take your head and place it horizontally on a table (with no helmet). Now take a hammer with your right or left hand and repeatedly bash your head with a hammer. If you're stilll alive repeat with helmet on to see clear results.

im really surprised that this site is so poor at accepting other people's opinions.

all i ever did was ask for some justification behind helmets, and when i argued my views on my side of the story, everyone started hating

To actually answer your question in hopes that you're not a stupid troll, and just maybe in 6th grade, helmets work because of pressure distribution.

You hit your head on a rock, all the force of the impact is concentrated on your skull. That means you're gonna have a really bad time.

With a helmet, it gets spread over a wider area, and the foam inside of the helmet takes the brunt of the force.

That is why they are important.

Easy - you could hit a 50 foot booter and be fine, or you could land on your head and hurt yourself.

You could hit a backyard set up and be fine, or you could hit your head on the rail and hurt yourself.

Sure you much more likely to hurt yourself on the booter but that doesn't mean the rail can't be just as dangerous depending on the circumstances.
