Smashed edge help!(pics)

So I purchased a pair of 09 JO pros on sale at the start of a the season. I recently noticed that my one edge had a tiny crack about 3 weeks ago, yet i continued to ride thinking it wasn't to severe. After 2 weeks my edge began to split from the ski and eventually began to crack.

So NS is there any hope of fixing this, oris it even slightly possible to warranty?

probably warrantyable because they looks way gnarlier than normal edge crack and fall out.

yea thats defanitely how it first cracked, but I tried to be more careful on them after I discovered it, and stuck mainly to jumps.

im not sure if the warranty is still valid if they are 09's but check with where ever you got em from. next time try rounding your edges a tad

looks like some serious rail damage...

either way... its obviously rail damage... most companies dont warranty that...

this. you cant warranty a ski that you caused the damage of. hitting rails are something you decided to do and the edge broke out as a result of that. now if you were carving and the edge came out they would most likely warranty that.

well if u got it on sale, its last years ski, and you busted on rails, i would say warranty is out, but see if you can find the right ski for the rght price, dont hesitate to go for it at this point.

if you want a ski that wont get busted up and can take rails on for days...get the Line Afterbangs.
I'd go next years afterbangs, because being the second year they are in produciton, I would think that they will be tweaked from the first year they were out

I would definitely try to warranty. most companies are pretty good about getting people back on snow, but it is never a guaranteed thing.
Unfortunately, due to the fact that the JO Pro is a cap construction ski it would be damn near impossible to fix. You could fill it with epoxy (some that dries flexible, if it is too rigid when dry it will just crack when your ski flexes), and then clamp it together, but even then there is a good chance that it won't hold. It is a lot easier to fix blown edges and such on sandwich/ vertical sidewall skis.
Warranty is always at least worth a shot!

That won't be repairable. In the second pic it looks like there has been some fracture of the glass fibres in the sidewall. Once thats happened there's no way to recover the strength. Even then, the split is too extensive to repair with epoxy and clamping. You'd need vacuum infusion equipment that along with toughened infusion specific epoxy to fix it.

It looks like the crack you're talking about was between the edge and the sidewall rather than in the edge itself. If it happens again you may be able to stop the crack propagating by forcing in some high strain to failure (i.e. flexible) and/or toughened epoxy into it. Otherwise, once a cracks there it will keep growing until the ski fails. the only thing you can do to stop it is to remove it. If the crack started in the edge itself then the thing to do would be to file it out. This will remove the crack and the hardened steel around it (the harder the steel gets the more brittle it becomes).

hammer edge back into place, epoxy the shit out of it (reinforce epoxy with steel wool fibers) and clamp everything into place until it's hardened out.

or, if you have the money:
look for new skis....

Or for a 'ghetto' way of making a micro/nano toughened epoxy get some fine alumina powder and mix a bit of that in (about 10-20% by weight should work). You can get alumina powder as a food/baking additive (don't know the additive name though). Its also used to make some toughened adhesives/composites in Aerospace and other applications. Obviously the process and materials are a lot more controlled but the principal is the same. Alternatively, talcum powder might work. The particles of alumina/talc will help blunt cracks that grow in the epoxy (kind of like drilling a hole at the end of a crack in a window to stop/blunt it). You still want a high strain to failure (flexible) epoxy though.

If you're going to try and glue it then get a really slow cure (and flexible) epoxy system and warm it up before using it. This should make it more runny and it will get into the nooks and crannies better. Has to be a slow cure resin as a fast cure resin will set almost straight away. As a rough guide for every 10 degrees (centigrade) you increase the temp the cure time will halve at least. Not sure if this would work well or if it would last very long but I guess you've got nothing to lose.

If you do try it, let us know how it works.
