5 ft is standard for a normal skate park, but the smaller the foam is the more you will sink. Woodward uses the small half foot blocks but I have been in some that use long thin strips like a rug size and you don't sink much in those.
Do you have a budget? Foam is expensive.
Well the one I usually use is like 6 feet of foam, and it's all held up by a mesh net. Under the net it's just hollow empty space for at least a few feet. I guess that's too advanced too make but it's a lot safer then just a box with 6 feet of foam, because I've hit the bottom before easily. Climbing out isn't really a big deal, I'd rather have a tough time getting out then breaking my ankle on the bottom, right?
try and find an apolstrey (sp?) or furniture type factory in your town, they always have foam cut aways and if you talk to them the will usally help you out, then you can make it as big as you need for free or realy cheap
raid the dumpsters of any places that build beds, chairs, coaches, or during fall and spring clean ups take the cushions off the chairs and coaches, cut the foam out of them. May take a while but it's cheaper them buying the foam.
First off, i wouldn't be asking this question on NS if I were you. It not going to be much help. Do some research kiddie! It depends alot on what type of pit you are getting, if its for a tramp then call up some places you know that have those and ask them, or i'm sure you can use a lovely tool called google. We have a tramp and foam pit in my backyard and our full pit is about 5 or 6 feet deep. At about 4 feet we put a huge tramp bed to keep people from touching the ground and making it easier to fluff the cubes. But it really depends on how big the pit is giong to be and what type it is. Do your research this really is not a question for NS.
This. If you want to get good at tramp just go to a gym, their tramps are super high quality, they always have foam pits, mats errywhere, and there's usually some instructors on hand to help you out if you want to learn stuff. I learned wall flips in a night just going to drop-in at a place near my house.
im pretty sure with a tramp bed underneath 4-5 feet deep is fine.
on a second note, im also pretty sure those blocks are like 3$ a piece or some shit like that. because i have connections at rye airfield and we wanted to drop a foam pit in the park but it would cost a shit ton for all the blocks.
That's so sick major props for making that, is that yours or wolf.'s? If you don't mind me asking how much do you think that cost cause you have actual foam blocks not like mattresses and junk foam from furniture. Think I'll just stick to the one at the gym where I get tramp lessons at.
This. I used to do gymnastics a while back and their pit was about 9 feet with a trampoline at the bottom and that was perfect for jumping from about 15 feet. This might be one of those questions that you don't just trust newschoolers on haha you might want to get some actual research in on it.
