Well the currently accepted theory (I'm a bio major so you can quote me on this) is that flight evolves when there is a high oxygen density in the atmosphere. As we are losing that density due to emissions of CO2 and N2O in our atmosphere, animals in general are becoming smaller because they receive less oxygen to support metabolism PER breath of air they inhale.

This makes every animal smaller. The reason it is more noticable in birds is that O2 at high density creates a very buoyant climate allowing flight to take place easily with heavier and less efficient body parts. As this buoyancy decreases so too the bird has to A: Lose weight to "float" easier and B: become smaller to have a less demanding oxygen requirement for the density of the air.

if that doesn't register with you: ALL ANIMALS ARE GETTING SMALLER BECAUSE THERE IS LESS OXYGEN PER SQUARE FOOT IN OUR ATMOSPHERE THEN 200 YEARS AGO

The fact they are citing climate change as the cause and not including other factors bothers me. The article was too broad and conclusive. Plus i wouldn't trust the BBC when it comes to north american songbirds

I wouldn't trust any news network with the songbirds of north america because they are in it for the story or whatever hot topic will sell the story; NBC, ABC, BBC are all about as reliable as newsweek, time, or the weekly standard. well i would actually trust the BBC more than the other news outlets previously stated, but still not as my primary source.

I have no problem with evolution, it is often misunderstood. I believe in climate change, i would go as far to say climate change has been occurring since the origin of the atmosphere. And birdwatching is a hobby of mine, but i don't trust journalists when it comes to avian morphology.

You could do a study between one year to the next and find such a difference! Fact is they are measuring fuck all birds in relation to the total populations and there are way more factors involved. Its just another bullshit article trying to pin everything on global warming.. um sorry climate change. If all species shrink with climate change why are others not?

The only thing that is shrinking is journalists ability to report unbiased articles! Corporate news is a fuckin joke!

ive been diving a lot lately and i was talking to my instructor who has been doing it since the 80's. he said you used to see baby/adult octopus on the regular at a local dive site. Now because of pollution, and overfishing, they are extremely rare. You'd be lucky to see one after 50 dives (years for some people).

Climate change is affecting the oceans more than land so all the dramatic shit happens where 99% of people don't go. Out of sight, out of mind. It's not like it matters, the earth will recover hopefully without humans...

OH NO!!!! first it was global warming, now its climate change because people started to catch on to Al Gore's Lie, but I do give him credit because the whole global warming scam has made him millions....and does birds getting smaller really matter at all, you see if people wanted to reduce pollution which i think is a good idea, just not when its taken off the deep end like some people do in America, but what people should focus on is not how much America is polluting but rather how much the rest of the world is doing take China for example they are a lot worse than us...heres some pics, its disgusting

Funny story, a Pterodactyl would not be able to survive or fly in the current environment because the levels of oxygen have been so depleted since the time of the dinosaurs. The lack of heat and proper atmosphere has been forcing birds to shrink since the first catastrophe.

Something to think about.
