D300 & SB-900 problem HELP ++++++k

So my D300 built in flash wont stop firing when i'm using my sb-900 wirelessly even when it's set on commander and on - -

There are a ton of complaint threads online but i havent found any with the solution.  Has anyone had this same problem before?  Any help is greatly appreciated because its really inconvenient not being able to do wireless lighting and I have a shoot tomorrow where I need this to work

the on camera flash just fires and does not stop??? try re setting the camera menus and looking at the flash comp button and resetting that, if that does not work, contact nikon or ur local shop

i have a D300 and 2 sb-900 not a problem yet.

-you should get some PWs, im waiting for a price drop or sale (if it will ever happen)

the sb-900 is triggered by the light from the on camera flash. Without the on camera flash, the sb900 wont go off. Unfortunalty, there is some lag (on my camera) and the on camera flash can still be seen in the photo. I have a d200 and cannot get the on camera flash completely out of my photos, but if you go into the menus and pull the on camera flash power down as low as it can go, it helps reduce it.

As far as I know, this is the best you can do on the D200. I assume the D300 is similar.

Word it doesnt show up in my photo's since its a pre flash i guess so i think i'll live with it even though it's really obnoxious, at the post above yours: i dunno how you got the sb900 to fire wirelessly without the pop up flash (since the pop up triggers it), but you are a lucky man, thanks both of you

Check your shutter speed, cant go over what your setting is (max is 320 and normal is 60) if you want you can put ur hand infront of the pop up flash and direct the light to the strobe or just block it by covering it with your hand at the end of your lens. btw, the strobes read infrared light, ive got the strobes working from 50m away. the tip is have the infrared reader (side of strobe, small red circle at the bottom) pointed at the pop up flash.

so check your shutter speed. and direction that the infrared receiver is facing.
in camera check the max speed sync.

^yeah i know about that stuff. Ive looked around for answers and it seems to be an unsolvable problem and is common to all d200's. Its not the full flash that gets in the frame, just the tail end of it.

Seems like a manufacturing problem. (with D300)
Contact nikon and tell them your problem. they do make bad batches of items, i got one of the 1st D300 bodies so it has some goop dripping onto the sensor (appears at small apertures above 8, occurs with softness) so yeah, they might fix it for you (for free, if under warranty) or send u a free new one (also if under warranty) You could re-set the strobes menus and see of that helps. then try taking off all the 'new' features and strip it down to only a light.

I got a brand new 16-85 f/3.5-5.6 cuz the gears shifted and broke.

Give it a shot, you might just have a defective item.
