1st shot is great, i love the colours
2nd awesome! great composition, i like the reflections on the water.
3rd, the black n white boats, great but it looks like it would need more contrast to make the black and white pop more.
4th looks awesome but it to looks like it could use some contrast or less fill...

these are all things that i have seen and are all my opinion.
I dont know how much quality has been lost on NS, they look a tad soft and flat. (but only a LITTLE)


it may seem like i am hating on your photos... but they are TRULY AMAZING!!!!

I would like to see more photos of yours, they are great!!!

first two are great! Like said above, B&W could use a bit more pop, and for the forth the colors could be played with a bit. Other than that great job!

ya know, I wasnt going to say anything, but since your stil butt hurt and decided to take a snide personal attack at me, I figured I would join in this thread.

You know, Im just going to skip the first two pictures, because they are just pretty pictures of a sunset.. seriously?
Third shot - super flat, and boring. Has nothing to hold my eye for more than 2 seconds..
Fourth shot - closest one to being interesting, but once you get past the pretty colors, there is very little to the shot. How is this art? What about this shot is conceptual or shows a view?

Overall they are 4 boring shots with 3 being completely focused on pretty colors. Stop being so focused on colors and you will improve, look for new things, or have a view for why you are shooting what you are shooting.

well my main objective was color. i'm not going to lie. i don't like the B&W either.

i was in the Caribbean i'm obviously going to shot more for color, it's what made me happy and what i wanted to do

then are you content with pretty pictures? if your career becomes photography related, would you be fine with pretty pictures that people overlay song lyrics with?

my career is going to be physical therapy actually.

and i have tons more pictures that are better with more of a meaning ( like i said this was vacation not some photoshoot). maybe if you looked deeper into a photo you'd understand things such as design aka what i did with my second picture and you'd look at things relating to design and not just being a complete dick.


check out henri bresson, he shoots mostly design and gesture. i liked the design aspect and colors with these pictures.

you asked for a critique and was blatantly honest so what.

And the design in your second one is really just lack of information in that almost half the frame is filled with black that does nothing but get in the way really. I do like the forth one though and i wouldn't add color or contrast to any of them, if your going to do anything id take away some color.

Design aspect? You shot a sunset through leaves.. lol.

Cartier-Bresson was a photojournalist, he had a great influence on street photography, not decorative lyrical pieces on the walls of your local trailerpark.

he was NOT a photojournalist. he hated photojournalism and was bad at it.

and yes look at the textures and lines and curves ect.

okay, i forgot i didn't study him in film class. i also didn't listen to many of his interviews where he specifically said " i'm not a photo journalist i dont like it and im not good at it"

I may make one over this break.. I give plenty of people respect, its just less obvious because they dont make stupid ass threads. Theres plenty of people on here who know whats good, techyes, nick iodice. skinnylove has shown some decent work, ftk as well.

I love how you "interpret" what I say, because you have no argument, your just butt hurt. Where did I tell you your photographs were wrong? I think your wrong on a lot of things, such as Bresson, but never have I said half the shit you keep claiming I am.

But your clearly to set in your "thick headed" ways, so much that you wont even go look up Bresson, to find out that everyone claims him as a influential figure in the world of photojournalism. But you "studied" him in your high school photo class so whatever, I guess your right and everyone else is wrong.

Hey there, angry hippo, I will awake you from you're asleep to make this argument take a saftey break in the worlds of whiskey-whiskers: does an egg come before the brewster hatches his walnut?

On a more serious note- I think they're nice shots, but nothing exceptional. They aren't bad, but I wouldn't call them great either: once you get past the pretty colors, the rest of the shot is bland. Composition is so-so, except the boat pic. Open it in Photoshop and slide the levels around a little for a bit of contrast, and it will look a whole lot better than it does right now.
