STEELE SPENCE TO JUDGE WPO
The former X Games and Level 1 athlete and has been announced as a
member of the judging panel for the Winter Park Freeskiing Open. While
Steele has extensive competition experience, this will not his first
time in this role. He has previously judged other freeskiing events,
including the now defunct US Freeskiing Open.
He joins a panel of FIS certified, AFP coordinated judges.
Why do a bunch of racers at FIS decide who is qualified to judge a freestyle event?
I was a little confused too, so I did some research. The Winter Park
Freeskiing Open has been working with the AFP to make sure the judging
is legit. However, the AFP doesn't accredit judges. Turns out that FIS
is the only international governing body that does. While FIS doesn't
sanction slopestyle events, they do sanction halfpipe events. Since
there isn't a better way to determining who is legit and who is not,
the AFP uses the pool of FIS halfpipe judges. In addition, all judges
selected by the AFP for this event have experience judging AFP
slopestyle events.
Steele Spence is currently the Creative Director for 4Frnt Skis.
NEW FINALS FORMAT
I'll keep it simple:
10 dudes.
5 women.
1 rail.
2 jumps.
3 runs.
2 count.
Add 'em up and you have the Winter Park Freeskiing Open Champions.
30 SECONDS OF INFAMY
Are you the next Bobby Brown? The Winter Park Freeskiing Open was
founded because of the lack of Open events needed for aspiring pros to
reach the next level--events that Bobby Brown, TJ Schiller had to
propel their careers.
With that in mind, we've come up with a way to help you do a little
self promotion and get the exposure you need in front of thousands
watching the live webcast. It's called 30 seconds of Infamy. Send us 30
seconds of your best footage, and if you make the finals, we'll include
it in the webcast. The goal is to show you outside of competition and
give the audience a more complete picture of who you are.
Here's how to do it:
1. Edit a 30 second video.
2. Upload the video to newschoolers.com and include "Winter Park Open" in the title.
3. Post a link on our event page. http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=337537128442&index=1
4. We'll download it and include it in the webcast.
