Problem with Kung Fujas

Hey guys, I was wondering about some damage that happened to my Kung Fujas. I was at New York and having a great time. When I took a break I put my skis on the rack and noticed I was missing a nice section of ski on the sidewall about 3 inches long and it was clean along the metal edge. I was wondering two thing: If this is a warranty issue cause dealer said they would claim impact even though I've never hit a rail EVER and never miss abuse them in my eyes? Also I saw another guy with similar damage so is this common with K2?

I here K2 has a pretty good warranty dept. I would bring them back to your dealer and have them warranty them. Or contact k2 on fbook.

thats not due to any manufacturer defect. you have a coreshot because you hit a rock. get some ptex and continue to live your life

there is no way this just "happened"

you must have hammered ur skis together either 1. on the lift a bunch of times. or 2. mid run, hitting a rock, or again hitting ur skis together.

if you like to do mute grabs, this is also a common damage site.

I hear ya guys it does look like I nailed them together really bad but I honestly don't know when I did it. I was trying to think back about when it might of happened and I fell once just spinning on the ground goofing off but I doubt that was a hard enough fall to cause that unless it was a lucky hit i guess. I don't hit my skis together on the lift either. I'm just really bummed about this looking for answers thanks for all your input so far.

k2 wouldnt warranty that because it isnt a manafacturer defect.

Okay so I guess I'll take them to the dealer and let him take a look but I bet you guys are right and they'll say it's my fault. Kind of sucks I never had this happen with any of my armada skis. I guess I'm just surprised that it chipped that big. I understand top sheet chipping but down to the wood core is a bit much especially never touching a rail or anything.

next question? how will effect the skis performance and longevity if I seal it and is ptex the best stuff to use to do it?

obviously thats a real bummer that happened, and you probably wont be able to get warranty because that will be considered "impact damage", if I were you I would get some real high grade epoxy from your hardware store, prop the ski up with that damage on top, and just gob as much epoxy in there as possible, let it set up real good for a few days in a warm spot without much temperature fluctuation and when it is rock solid take a sharp new razor blade and trim all the excess down so the only stuff left on the ski is basically where the sidewall material would have been, you know trim it up all nice and flat and smooth and call it good. Its not going to affect your skis unless water gets in there, so do a good job at the epoxy and dont scrimp on it. Also if it starts falling out after time keep applying and filling and just ride them like normal. good luck.

Hey man, take it to your local K2 dealer and have them check on a warranty claim. Obviously you slammed one ski into the other, but sidewall should not break apart like that. It is worth trying a warranty. Good luck.

I would definitely try to warranty. I work in a shop and have seen several models come back with sidewall missing (more specifically the Kung Fujas and the Extreme). I was amazed the first time I saw it, but I have seen several skis come back missing quite a bit of sidewall. Take them back to the shop you purchased them at. They should be able to take care of it for you. If they don't...I would seriously question buying another pair of K2's.
My experience is the past is that K2 has an excellent warranty dept. The only problem you could run into now is availability. K2 has nothing available at the moment. Might have to wait til next year to receive anything back, but the sooner you get them in, the better your chances.

Yeah I contacted the shop I got them from in Montana but i live in Michigan so I'm not sure what to do and my local shop doesn't seem to want any part in it so I guess I'm waiting to hear back from the shop I bought them from for now. Thanks for the info about this being somewhat of a problem and I hope it get resolved soon.

K2's warranty is kinda 50/50 for something like that.  I had a customer bring in a pair of women's sweet luv skis because of topsheet damage similar to your case and k2 sent us the skis back claiming it was the customer's fault.  They said it was caused by the customer banging their skis together and warranty does not cover that kind of damage...That's been my only experience with K2 topsheet warranty.

well it sounds like I got a 50/50 shot at getting them warrantied so I guess I'm gonna take a shot at it. I understand top sheet chipping and all that I've owned abs sidewall skis before. I owned the T-hall scarface skis that were know for horrible top sheet chipping, but to see how this came off so clearly along the metal edge and how big of a section and how the sides don't look sliced they just look like they cracked off I feel that there something is wrong with this ski. I hope I'm right

called shop twice to get RA# and still waiting..... ugh they don't make this a great time at all!

The shop said they were gonna get me my RA# but it's been 3 days now and nothing has faxed over and I've called and they say they got it and still nothing..... has anyone worked with Apline High out of Montana.... thats where I got them
