Need help. Noob Mac question

I don't know what happened but my desktop icons and stuff aren't there. Even my Mac harddrive icon is gone. And its weird because when I go into my desktop folder the stuff is in the folder. I tried system preferences but couldn't figure out how to get them to show up again.

If someone could help me out, that would be sick. Thanks

p.s. I already posted thin in apple heads

you may have set your tool bar to hide accidently. try moving your mouse to the sides and bottom of the screen.
