Wildlife encounters

I haven't encountered too much wildlife while skiing... I've seen the odd rabbit. Once I was following a rabbit for a good 4 or 5 seconds while at speed in the trees... Makes you wonder what that rabbit was thinking, eh?

My main reason for creating this thread though - a few years ago, I saw a moose inbounds. we were on the catcher run near the bottom when this moose came running up the beginner runs, across the catcher run (cat track) and up into a gladded run.

How crazy would that be? skiing along at the ski hill thinking "tree, tree, tree, MOOSE!, tree". sure wouldn't want to accidentally hit the moose.

anyone see any out of the ordinary wildlife? a bear would be super crazy? a cougar? mountain goat? wolverine?

I was skiing some un touched glades and was sitting there putting my ipod away becuase I was getting into a little deeper terrain and steeper. Look up and 20 feet away a bear was walking past me. I kinda made some noise just so it saw me and wasnt alarmed when I flew past it. Kinda really cool.

seen tons of dear at grouse and podwer mt i went catskiing and we stop and regroup and there is a trees beside us and it was ripped to shreds and i asked my guid about it and he said every one pisses on it and cougar or bear marked its teratory

last season at grouse mtn, i was going up the lift and i noticed this massive raven digging in the snow right below the lift so i kept on watching him and the raven pulled out a oh henry bar and flew off with it hahah

I saw a rabbit drop into a 22' superpipe once. Almost made it all the way up the other side, came within a foot of making it back out.

I've seen bears, moose, deer, mountain goats in the mountains while driving to and from where I ski out of.

I saw a lynx underneath the gondola at whistler once, don't think i'd want to meet him while skiing. also saw one once about 8m from my friend's first floor balcony staying in whistler.
other that that a mouse...

while out grooming at night iv seen moose, cougars, a couple of lynx, deer, rabits, foxes, cyotes. u see alot more at night with the lights from the snow cat then you would ever think.

back when i was in high school i built a rail and wanted to try it out but none of my friends could go so i drove up to this hill by myself with it in the evening. had a good little session until i was hiking back up i noticed there were bunch of big ass cougar prints in the snow right in front of me that i hadn't seen the whole time. I looked around and those prints happened to be all over the place. So i'm like all right ill hit it a few more times and go. Well what do you know, one of the times I was hiking back up not much later i spot this cougar just calmly cruising through the trees higher up on the hill above me. I skied down to my car which was about 100 ft. away, got in and looked back up but never saw it again.

i always think about that day and think that there is no possible way that i saw him first which creeps me out but i guess he was just cruising minding his own business, i feel like if he had any interest in me i wouldn't have seen him. i honestly think a lot of times these animals at the top of the food chain could not give a fuck about you. my girlfriends dad last year was taking a piss outside his office at their place in the woods at night and said a huge cougar walked straight by him only 10 ft. away and didn't even look at him or acknowledge he was there in any way, just calmly strolled away into the woods.

Springtime in Tahoe, when the bears come out of hibernation, you can spot them all over. I saw two cubs raiding a dumpster off to the edge of the cat maintenance shop at Alpine Meadows a few years ago. Last year, I saw a big bear (scary big) about 50 feet away from me in the edges of Granite Chief at Squaw. Needless to say, I admired it for a few seconds, then booked it after making sure it hadn't taken notice (or at least interest) of me. In the unofficially dubbed Deer Camp area of Alpine Meadows, I've seen ... Wait for it... Deer on several occaisions, and other than that, I've seen birds (who hasn't) and squirrels. No possums or tortillas or anything like that, though...

Moose, deer, bald eagles and other birds, various burrowing animals (i.e. marmots, etc.). Nothing too huge though.

Couple squirrels and munks. On our way home from the canyons we saw a mountain lion and a bunch of mountain goats. cougars are BIG and scary as shit. On my mountain bike I have ran into so many bears its not even funny. any bear will attack you (black bears included)...

One of my buddies was traversing by himself and a moose and her baby were running up the traverse and we were like 4 feet away from it, we just unclicked and slowly started stepping back, also they are more dangerous than bears. They kill/injure more people in Alaska than black and brown(grizzles) combined, specifically cows and there young, which we ran into. Probably the scariest moment I have ever had skiing.

was hiking and  came accross a black  bear and her two cubss, that was scary.

last  summer i was in my yard late at night when a fisher cat showed up. booked it in the house with my dog. those things are vicious.

seen several moos before, but im from maine, so not a big deal/.

my old science teacher's mom found what she thought was a stray cat. after a few months, it got bigger, and bigger, and bigger. turns out, she got a baby cougar. It still lives with her. pretty sweet

last summer when i took a trip down to chile one of the days it dumped like 2 feet. it was close to the end of the day and None of my friends really wanted to go back out so i decided id take one more run off the top and call it a day. i got to the top and traversed to a mellow line with about a foot and a half of fresh snow. i started the run making some nice turns and i get about half way down and i look to my right and theres a cayote running in the snow next to me. i was shocked at first and turned left a little and slowed down. i came to a stop and the cayote ran up behind me in my tracks. it was about 5 feet from me, tail wagging tounge open and was compleatly harmless. i continued my run and it followed me all the way back to the lift. But for about 50 yards i was shredding thigh deep pow and the cayote was running right next to me, as if he was enjoying this as much as i was. easily one of the sicker moments of my life.

When I went to copper, while waiting in line birds would land on our hands if we held them up.  I guess they wanted food.  Also, last year a mouse ran across the trail and a kid I know sliced it in half with his edge.
