ContourHD, letting in more light.

I forget the correct term, but is there anyway to set it up to let more light in.

I have been messing around with my contourHD, took it longboarding on a nice sunny day, and even in the shadows from the houses it was kind of hard to see. It was a little cloudy, but definitely bright day with blue skies, and around 3 o clock in the afternoon. Are there any setting to improve the camera in situations like this?
