you have to actually turn your shoulders the direction you are switching up, cant just spin your legs.

frontside- twist your upper body to forwards as you pop it, vision can always stay forwards.

backside- twist your upper body back first and pop, (i spot down to line my skis up, and then bit and after they touch) move my vision up and forwards

your vision does like a 360 in a BS and like nothing in a FS if you think about it. That's why a FS switch up 270 out (K-fed) is harder than a BS switch 270 out in my opinion, because your whole upper body is already spinning more in the later.

first you have to scissor. to have ur inside edge of ur foot forward ski against the rail to build up a little friction. then turn the same foot in the direction you r trying to switch up, and then push off and turn, commit

The fact that with a Backside switch up, you will have your back towards the end of the rail after 90 degrees (seeing a switch up as a 180). Frontside, the front of your body will be facing the end of the rail after 90 degrees.

Frontside= spinning with tips rotating downhill
Backside= spinning with tips rotating uphill.

i learned them by thinking about it as a 270 off the rail a little bit early (for frontside at least) you just do a 270 a little bit earlier, you'll tap the rail, and ride out switch


once you got those down you can start to do them earlier, over kinks, pretzels etc etc....

keep sliding a bunch of boxes until you are really really good at them and you get bored of that. then throw in a hard front grip and be patient, then hop and you will do what is called a frontside switchup.

twist your head to where you want to land (180) of course unless you want to 360 but when your turning your head jump and spin your upper body. also keep your skis together dont let them fly every where or your gonna land like you said you do every time.

i learned something like this, its like 270 onto the box/rail, but do it late. don't spin when you're on the lip, hold the spin until you get on the box. sounds goofy, but it worked for me.

on a box for blind but on a rail for pretzel. on a box you can just keep going with the momentum but you have better grip on a rail.

learn front 270s first then just think about doing it , but just earlier, first you can just bonk the rail with ur skis but when u get comfortable with it, do it earlier to get a decend slide
