no poles has no place with that kind of skiing. i'm sorry. I rock no poles in the park a lot, I'm the last to hate on no poles, but in all seriousness, people shouldn't be rocking no poles when doing chutes like that... for their own sake.

very often correct, but garrett russell has spent time skiing big mountain lines without poles in the past, as seen in some of his other edits (check one of the ones from SASS)

so? doesn't mean it's a good thing. poles actually serve a purpose in terrain like that.

why sacrifice technique and mobility in the mountains for something as silly as "style"?

Sorry bro. I totally disagree.
Ski poles wouldn't have helped me out at all in that situation. I didn't ski no poles because of style it was way more for function. Ski poles would have only got in my way, but thats just my opinion. Come ski with me sometime and we shall what you think about your precious little poles :)

while i use poles, i can see how using no poles is useful. like in the Jay seg from Wild Stallions.

i never use poles, no matter what kind of skiing i do, chutes, cliffs, trees, pillows, rails, jumps. really doesn't make a difference once you learn to balance correctly. this doesn't need to be a pole/no pole argument. different people have different opinions and preferences on the topic. that's the way it will always be.

alright, i'll give you your right to an opinion, and if you truly believe that poles don't help, fine.

I still don't think it's right, still think that poles are hugely beneficial when in a steep, tight spot...


and on the uphill - I skin up, will most likely never own a sled (mostly by choice), and therefor, poles.... well, without them, I wouldn't be getting very far. And there's no better feeling than a proper 4 point landing when stomping something big.


But, can't argue with opinion, so I'll just let it go.

one pic is from four years ago, the other two are last year during one of the handful of times i used them, and the other one i dont have poles.

anyway, doesn't need to be an argument, this thread is about how g russell is always keepin it real in all aspects of skiing
