I'm not hating on Wu. I'll go bar for bar for all of 36, Liquid Swords, etc. They are legendary, and they have an undeniable spot amongst the greats. But, the quality of output from Wu and Wu members has plummeted. I guess I'm just venting about all these kids repping Wutang so hard all these years later because it's fashionable.
What I take issue with, is when people constantly spout off obscure, or in Wu's case not so obscure, shit in order to dismiss new shit. People always say "real hip hop" and I can't help but laugh. Hip-hop is party music. It's about energy, feel, and escape. Obviously it's grown to the point where it's fragmented and artists have carved out niches (political/social conscious, gangster, etc.) but it's undeniable that hip-hop, and specifically emceeing, is about moving bodies. In that sense, Drake is real hip-hop.
Furthermore, it's just a teenaged mentality that it's cool to hate on the "main stream". Everyone wants to believe that their taste is original and superior to what the "masses" are listening to.
