I'm not getting into the religion debate, but I'm just wondering how labeling yourself an Atheist, or anything for that matter is a cop out. Humans like to name things, it's a fact. If you don't believe in god, why can't you label yourself an Atheist. The same way, that if you believe in Catholicism, why can't you label yourself as a Catholic. I don't see it as a cop out to label yourself. Imagine trying to tell someone that you don't believe in god, but you're not an Atheist.
"Yeah, I don't believe in god"
"So you're and atheist?"
"Well, I don't like to label myself an atheist, because it's taking the easy way out"
".............wut?"
Again, I am making no comment on religion.
Back to the main point of the thread:
I love videos like that. It makes part of me feel so insignificant, but then I realize that, although I may not, or the entire milkyway galaxy for that matter, have any impact on the universe, in my day to day life there is meaning. Whether it be someone believing in an ultimate meaning of life, or someone just going about their day, it has meaning to everyone. Don't go all nihilist on me and be like "Oh there's no meaning, blah, blah, blah" I'm not talking about that. I still live my life, and so does everyone around me, and as long as I'm alive I'm gonna make the best of it regardless of my impact on the universe. Why, because it has an impact on me and the people around me. Somehow, little electrical signals firing can create emotions and thoughts, and it's amazing that we can even think. But instead of getting caught up in that, and using it as a cop out (so close to being hypocritical) and saying "Oh, this has no relevance in the grand scheme of things so I might as well not do it" Live life to the fullest, and if anything, live life a little more on the edge, because if you truly believe that we have no impact in the grand scheme of things, you should have no problems taking some risks.
