I tend to agree with most of your posts related to this topic.

I sent one of the cards, but you guys should really try to find a way to send letters of your own to the soldiers. I had a pen pal in Iraq, and now I am looking for a few in Afghanistan. Also you could send some care packages. There is lots of info on the net on what you can do to support the troops even if you don't support the war.

This is my favorite post this week, and easily the most intelligent in this thread.

I fully support the troops, their safety, and their sense of duty, I don't, in any way support the war. I'm not going to get into a long discussion why, as I have seen what can happen in NSG when teens try to think

found this in a facebook group a few months back also. i've been sending them every week, because i have friends and family over seas, and they deserve thanks and encouragement for doing their job so we can live free. you don't have to support the war, but at least support the troops.

Okay, there is a difference between supporting the troops and the war itself, but since you have no draft at the moment, no soldier is forced to go to war; it's about individual choice. So, basically you are supporting the war by sending these messages.

Either way, they are people like us, so I see no reason to raise morale and remind them of their homes. No reason for explicit hate like "geteducated".

all of OP's posts make it seem like a war that people are forced to fight in. It's not a draft, and while some may still not agree with why they're there, they still chose to join the Military/Navy/Air Force.
ITT: patriotism and a pointless conflict

as a side note, i don't disagree with sending letters in the slightest, but it's still their damn choice that they ended up in Iraq

For those of you saying that it was their choice to join the military at all, you are right. They chose to join, BUT they did NOT choose this war.

If a war broke out that threatened us directly, you would be damn happy that they did join. They joined the protect us, our freedom, and our way of life.

If we didnt go to war, we would have all of our forces on standby or deployed on humanitarian missions. We would be prepared for the unlikely event of war.

Be thankful that those men and women, many not much older than us, joined.

Do your part to make them feel supported and send them a fucking card.

Should also add that some people did join during the war knowing full well that they might end up over there, but they arent fighting for the cause. They are fighting for the buddy next to them.

Just because there isn't a draft doesn't mean that they chose to join the military because they are supporters of the war. I have multiple friends who have chose to join the military because they simply have no other options. Granite they have no other options because of their own decisions in life, but that still doesn't mean they are a supporter of the war. And whether they are friends or not troops still have a right to know that people back home, thousands of miles away, are still thinking of them and knowing what they are out there doing for us. Because I would never have the balls to do half of the things they have done.

Um, if you say no I don't want to and don't give a reason such as religion or something similar (conscientious objector doesn't work anymore I think) they can court martial you.

As far as I know, con. objector does still work, but you have to go if you are deployed and wait for the paperwork to make its rounds through whichever branch it is. Also, its can be a huge black mark on your record that follows you everywhere.

I miswrote that: no man or woman, who is not working for the army, has to go to war in the States, right? As in, it is their choice to get enrolled at the moment, for whatever cause they believe in and thus supporting the war. Simple as that. As we don't know how the situation would be had US not invaded Iraq, I'm not gonna hypothesise about the safety of the world etc.

these post cards are so contrived.  i bet you won't even think about the fact that you just sent a post card to a soldier 24 hours from the time you made one.  if you really want to support the soldiers who really need the support, volunteer a few hours a week at a va hospital.  the fact that people care about you when you get state side would feel a lot better then getting your bullshit postcards everyday from random ass people that have no clue.

people just send the soldiers a damn card, every little thing counts. don't you think thats the whole reason taht this whole campaign was started about these cards, it makes a fucking difference.
