Damaged bases from too much flex?

This weekend I went off a jump, landed crazy nose heavy, and double ejected. I put my skis back on and as I was riding away one of them was dragging super bad. I took it off and saw a chunk about 2 inches long and an inch wide missing from the base. You could see about one square inch of the core. There were no rocks or anything on the landing at all. I was told that the base could be damaged if they flexed too far. Is that actually possible or did I do something else?

is it from a die-cut base? if so, then maybe. i've hard of that before. you also could have cut it previously and just popped it out? dunno man, that's weird.

yeah if its a die cut base then its possible, but if not, then the base would have splintered no just lost a chunk

The skis are Rossi S3's, I'm not sure if they're di-cut.

I took it to the shop to get it fixed and they said it wouldn't be a problem but I just want to know what the hell happened.
