The epicenter was like 10 km from my house. I tried calling this morning home but all phones were down. I just got news family/house are ok. I was pretty worruied since my house is like 50 m from the ocean.
So crazy, even buildings in santiago were collapsing.

Theres already been reports of 25ft tsunamis in some parts of Chile and the tsunami warning is pretty much in every contry round the pacific: all the way from Russia to Australia.
My friend is on the eastern coast of New Zealand, I hope she can make it safely inland. She said it was fucking crazy to wake up to the tsunami warning.
Since the 8.8 richter and the 7 richter of Haiti are ESTIMATIONS, and the Richter magnitude is based on 10 logarithmic scale it means that at the rise of 1richter the shaking amplitude is 10 times larger BUT the energy to set free by the earthquake is 32 times bigger. So 2x32=64?
But this isn't the place or time to argue about the scale and physics.
The 8.8 in Chile was spread over a massive area, so the shaking was strong, but not focused and violent. Haiti had a big earthquake in a very small area, and being a country not really prepared for such natural disasters didn't help either.
CNN said it was 500 times greater than the Haiti earthquake.
The Richter Scale is measured in Logrithiums so its a shit load more, not just like a little more
