I would look into some fast prime lenses. If you want to go with nikon nikkor lenses then you might want to the nikkor 35mm f/1.8 lens which has the auto focus motor in the lens so it will autofocus with your d5000 and also it is pretty good price at $200. It has a pretty close angle of view to what you want. Also in nikkor lenses the 28mm f/2.8 could be a good option. It doesnt have an AF motor in the lens so u would be restricted to the manual focus. if you want to spend a little more money then you can look at the sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6. Not the fastest lens but you get a really nice ultra wide angle of view, has AF motor, and has gotten good reviews. All are compatible with Nikon mounts.

you should just get a attachment one on ebay for 40$ or you can get some really nice ones for like 600, but if your not too serious you might as well go cheap.

thanks a ton homie! that looks like a super baller lens, especially for the price, but im thinking of abandoning my wide angle expenditure, and might just stick with my normal 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 for now, which will suffice as a wide angle for the time being. i know the glass, and ultimately the quality wont be as great, but am i wrong to assume it will work?i think i might purchase a macro, seeing as how one of my favorite types of nature photography, along with landscapes, are plants and i really getting in close to that shot to capture as much detail as possible

it's generally tough to find a uwa that goes below f/4 or something that won't cost a fortune

at least for canon it is, i don't know anything about nikon

but look into the sigma 10-20, it's got a higher f-value than you're looking for but it's a phenomenal lens. the thing about uwa is that they're so wide that you get very little camera shake so unless you're shooting action in low light you don't need to worry about blurry shots

Plus they are so wide you would need something way past 2.8 to get any sort of depth of field. Ill back the sigma lens, I got mine for $320ish?

Yes your 18-55 will be enough for now, if not, take 5 steps closer.
