Adderall and Diphenhydramine (benedryl)

So, I am on adderall and really need to get to sleep early tonight. So, I have an OTC sleep aid (Diphenhydramine). I research if they have adverse affects because adderall is a stimulant and the sleep aid is a depressant. But, looking at all of these peoples stories, they are all saying they trip out like they are on acid. This is probably not good for your brain, but has anyone had this happen to them after taking benedryl or a sleep aid with this in it?

I would advise against it. I have no experience with it, but it seems like a dumb idea.

all i know is that when i take benedryll i fall asleep so fast and so easily and it feels so good, but when you wake up you feel groggy

Took it when I woke up but its XR so it still lingers. I took it because Im supposed to take it.

To the first response, when I brought it up with my doctor and the pharmacist, they both didn't say no, but never gave me a definite answer. Benedryl is a very safe drug if youre not allergic to it.

you can trip on DPH if you take a shit ton, it's delirium due to excessive dehydration.

taking one to sleep will be fine.

If you really need to get to sleep I would try to find some seroquil. Its an anti-psychotic as well as a sleep aid.  should put you down easy.

Otherwise, I was up all night on the stuff before my calc final last semester and pulled an 89 if that makes you feel any better about pulling an all nighter.

most people i know take it because they lack motivation, at least you dont

i have mild ADHD and take concerta, and boy, does it fuck with my sleeping if i take it at night. good thing is im always wake in the morning!

Got about 4 hours of sleep in the past two nights. I have a very long day of classes tomorrow. I know what its like to pull all nighters lol

ive had a long love & hate relationship with addys ( adderal) . Okay i am a drug abuser true but in a productive way usually. For a while i used to bang on them , but your mind changes after a while the crash is so horrible its not even describable. I blew 60mg the other day to do homework it was great till
i came down and i felt like dying and there was a hole in my soul.  thus i stay away . and just pop my xanax like perscribed blessuppp

nah, you'll be fine. i have been taking adderall for about 5 years, and now take XR regularly. You should be fine with the benadryll, as I take that occasionally to fall asleep if I have to take an extra 4 hour dose when I get home from school.
Its good to use if you have to cram though because it is an amphetamine. I sometimes will pop double my usual dose at 10 p.m. and pull an all nighter until 5, go to sleep for an hour, then wake up to go take my test.

if you dont have any tests tomorrow I say take the benedryl.  Either you go to sleep or you trip out all night. The way I see it, you win either way!

Yes, you can use it to trip on. But it's not due to excessive dehydration. Although it gives you the worst cotton mouth you've ever had it doesn't dehydrate you and the reason it makes you trip is because it's a CYP2D6 inhibitor. But I really don't recommend it. It's not pleasurable at all and leaves you with poor vision and a hangover feeling for the next 3 or 4 days.


And taking adderall and diphenhydramine is fine. Doctors often recommend using diphenhydramine to combat amphetamine induced insomnia.

Actually, i am going to strongly disagree with you.

i've always been smart, but i just could no focus in class. i would talk, call out, look at the window, everything. But i was in all the higher classes and what not.
Eventually, i figured out that i could be doing better and should be doing better, but i could not focus. I was to god damn motivated and disappointed with myself that I asked my parents if we could look into ADD stuff, but they just shrugged it off, they had the same ideas as you.

well eventually, when i turned 16, i went and got "tested" (i admit i could have walked in there, said i can't focus, and got pills), and got some prescriptions.

now? well freshman year, i had around a 3.0 GPA (maybe less?). I started the meds sophomore year and finished off the year with a solid 3.6. this year, Junior year, I am in two APs (chem and american) and the second highest math that i could be in, physics, and some other classes. I have about a 3.85 GPA.

adderall doesnt make you smarter. adderall will help you to work at your maximum potential. if your stupid, and your max is still at a "stupid" level, then you will still get crappy grades.

so it was because I was SO motivated to do better that i started using adderall.
and i hate the side effects, but i can deal with them untill high school is over.

Exactly this.
Before taking it, I had 1 bad year of college where I never went to class and never focused. Then I transfered colleges, got my GPA up and my second year I finished with a 3.5 with no meds and I have an I.Q. in the genius range. So its not about being dumb and they make you smart.
Since being on them, I have a 3.8 GPA at a very good engineering school (which is a tough major anyway). It helps people like me with focus and concentration problems combat them. It isn't a miracle drug that makes people smart. An idiot on adderall is still an idiot.

But to this poster, you're going to want them in college too. It is harder to stay focused when you have the choice to go to class, let alone all of the distractions while in class and the intense amount of work and reading.

9 out of 10 people i have encountered that take adderall do it because they lack the motivation to do it themselves. revert to my post above explaining my struggle with ADHD as well
