I just got a text message. Apparently CR hit his head on a rock while skiing Headwall (Squaw) this morning and has passed away. I will keep this thread updated with details as I get them.

I just got off the phone with JT Holmes. JT was on the chairlift with Timmy Dutton and actually saw the fall in motion. Neither knew it was CR at that exact moment, but both knew instantly that it was a very bad accident. The two skied toward the scene and then JT recognized CR's jacket and he said his heart just dropped. They helped patrollers on the scene, but the trauma must have been so massive and swift that in retrospect JT believes that CR died instantly in the fall and didn't suffer.
It's more than just a cruel joke to have such an awesome guy come back from sooooo many obstacles and to be skiing so well again to have this happen.
JT's final words to me were very uplifting though....especially in retrospect that JT's now lost TWO close friends within the space of a year. Several people have posted CR's quote, "the joy i get from skiing... that's worth dying for", and well JT agreed that NO ONE had been enjoying skiing at Squaw this season more than CR. He had the biggest smile, the most stoke, and embodied everything that's right with skiing
RIP CR.....everyone here at Porters and in Tahoe will miss you dearly....
my hero and role model
CR was one of the first skiers i recognized in every ski movie as a kid. his skiing will live on forever.
Rest in Peace CR!
