CR Johnson has Passed Away

I just got a text message. Apparently CR hit his head on a rock while skiing Headwall (Squaw) this morning and has passed away. I will keep this thread updated with details as I get them.

We still miss CR everyday. If anyone is in the Tahoe or Salt Lake areas tomorrow, come join one of the official Ski for CR days. We'd love to see all of you out there.

Feels like it just happened. Even two years later, I still think about CR sometimes when I ski. I feel like all shredding this entire season will be dedicated to those gone.

if somebody took a picture of mine to use on a single, hand made memorial hoodie to commemorate the persons life in that picture I would be beyond stoked that my photo is being seen by hundreds of people every time it is being worn.

She isn't selling these hoodies and making money off your picture.

Stoked you like the image, stoked you're honoring CR, just be an adult about it next time and reach out.  Show some respect and you'll most often be treated with the same.  Stealing is lame.  All you had to do was ask me and we would have easily worked something out.

don't get pissy about this, you're getting coverage. if she was making hundreds to sell then yeah you have a point, but she isn't. even then i'd be more pissed if she was giving the money to you and not high fives

Really?  Do you pay your mortgage with a camera?  If so would you really be stoked that people were taking your images, removing anything that might identify it as yours, altering it for their own purposes and then doing whatever the fuck they wanted with them without asking your permission?  Somehow I find that hard to believe.  It's not cool. 

Am I really the only one the sees a disconnect in honoring someone as righteous as CR by stealing photos someone that was his friend?  WTF is wrong with you people?

No, I don't pay for my mortgage with a camera. But I can tell you this much... even if I did and one of my friends passed away and somebody wanted to use a picture of mine to commemorate my friends life I would be all for it. I wouldn't care about the money or permission at all. I would just be stoked that somebody liked my picture enough to put it on a shirt and celebrate my friends life. If this was any other situation regarding your photos, I'd agree with you. I just can't see how you could call someone out on this when they are celebrating your friends life with your photo?

I do agree that she should have asked for permission first. But realistically, if you didn't have the photographer state of mind that you do from shooting photos and you saw a sick picture of someone you wanted to make a memorial hoodie with it, would you really ask for permission to use it ONE time on ONE hoodie that was for your own personal use and NOT for sale?

She should have "asked" to use the picture, yes. Of course. That being said, is it really such a big deal to blow up about it on the aniversary weekend of CR's passing? People used music that wasn't "theirs" to make videos to commemorate CR, Shane, and Sarah. People "used" footage that wasn't theirs in those videos too. Were they stealing? Were they spreading the word that this was their media, their project? I don't think so. I think they're just trying to do something nice in memory of people we ALL loved.

BcL is right. This isn't about you. This isn't about you, or me, or the girl who made that hoodie. This is about CR, his memory, and what he meant to all of us. Take a second and think about what that hoodie really means before you go flipping a shit about it.



And CR: these two years have gone by so fast. We miss you more than you know. I opened this thread to read all the nice things people were and are saying about you and it started snowing. SIP, one love, never forget.

my mountain got pounded with snow this weekend. thanks CR! miss you so much and you are still one of the biggest inspirations in my life. thanks for the snow, thinking of you always and forever


side-note- i was devastated to open this thread and see the argument over a picture put on one homemade tribute hoodie (which i love, good job on that one isabelle) is ridiculous. CS_Photo i understand that you make your money off of your photos, and you could have sent her a PM her about it but dont put it in the tribute thread to CR.. its a sign of respect.
