Although Les 2 Alpes is a decent ski resort, there aren't too many families who would live there year round. You could rent an appartment (if you have the coin) in Les 2 Alpes for the summer, or maybe share with other Frenchies, but if living with a family is a priority, then you may struggle.
I'd say you're probably best to set yourself up in Bourg d'Oisans or Briancon (although these aren't the biggest of towns) or Grenoble, which is a city about 1-1.30 hrs away from Les 2 Alpes.
i second much of what has already been said here: nobody really likely to be livin in l2a year-round. yeah definitely try the french alps cult. i live in grenoble right now, wouldn't recommend living there during the summer- all the students clear out for the summer so my guess is you'll find it pretty dead. plus its an hour from l2a... briancon would be the call- great town, french vibe, 20mins from l2a, 20mins from italy, 3hrs from the mediterranean, 300+ sunny days/year, plenty going on in the summer.
i'll be there for a bit in june: my advice would be to get there sooner rather than later in the summer- by july/aug it's all brown and superslushy (can't get enough speed slushy, not fun-for-soft-landings-slushy). june it will be the best park in the world.
