Aerials afterbang??

Just watching mens aerials right now, and im curious as to why they throw they're arms up and shit.Is this they're equivalant to afterbanging? Do the judges critique this as part of they're points? hopefully someone knows whats goin on

if you have ever taken gymnastics, you always start with your hands up...if you were to start like a normal skiier does, your rotation would be off and you would be overall fucked.... it's hard to explain google it

its like gymnastics on skis, when they stick the landing they put their arms up to show control and that they landed the trick.  not sure if originality or style are part of the judging but i dont see it

Pretty sure that if your hands touch the snow, you lose points.  Same thing's the case in slope and big air comps.  Guys get deductions for touching their hands on a landing.  Aerialists are taught to land with hands forward and out as much for stability as to clearly show that their hands didn't touch down.  Also, as said above, demonstrates control. 

They always throw their hands up to hype up the trick.  I guess I never thought of it that way, but yeah, it is like the aerialists version of Afterbang.  It would be funny as shit to see one of them totally afterbang a landing and thug out some heavy head on the way down the landing hill.  Problem is that the skis they use are pretty short and not center mounted so if they leaned back on the landing, they'd fall on their butts.

speaking of their skis, do you think it would be possible for them to use tiwn tips and land switch in aerials, seems to me like it wouldnt work but i would be down to see that shit

knowing olympic commentatorrs they would probobly think he fucked up his rotation or something and landed backwards by accedent

How would it not work? At JOSS 2 years ago they had an aerials jump and they were taking off and landing switch.

yeah man, im talkin like three bflips then landing switch wouldnt be the easiest shit to land, not to mention the upwards of 1440 degrees of spins

Not really. They had an "aerials style jump" that SOMEWHAT resembled an aerials kicker in terms of the takeoff. The knuckle, distance to knoll, landing etc. were nothing like what the aerialists use.

That's not to say it would be impossible, but it would be much more difficult to pull it off on a real aerials site than it was for the guys to do on that feature at JOSS.

i've always wanted somebody in moguls to land switch off the last jump. those last few moguls aren't that big.  seems like it should be doable.  nice stomped cork 9 would be baller.

for those wondering about hitting aerials jumps on twin tips, travis perkins used to (and still may) send rodeos off of the big aerials jumps. landed switch too.
so yea it's possible. it's just gnar.

i read somewhere its illegal to land switch in aerials? not sure, but i think i remember hearing it, i'm not about to search their rule book tho...
