Well about 2 weeks ago the piece of plastic that holds down the break on my LOOK Nova 10's broke. Unfortunatly this piece isnt replacable which means id either have tomake some sort of frankenstine repair or get new bindings (I actually did end up doing option A just for the sake of being able to ski while i found new bindings, thank god for crazy glue, duct tape and some enginuity)
I decided that rather than take my normal path and find the cheapest usable bindings i could, id spend the extra dough to get a pair that was going to really last me. So i started researching, in my search to find reliable, bombprooof bindings, i kept coming across the same names. These names were, of course, the rossignol fks series/ look pivot 12's ( metal with turntable heals) Every thread i found just kept saying how good and reliable these bindings were, so i concluded i wanted these. Only problem was, all the affordable pairs were either really old and used (not necessarily bad because they are reliable but still slightly sketchy) and all the new ones cost alot; i mean i was prepared to spend extra dough but i still dont have money growing out my ass to throw away on ski bindings.
I continued to search and make a WTB thread where i was offered many fks's, both old and new, about 3 of the pairs were the most recent fks's (besides this years, im talking 2007) unfortunatly i did not have the requested $230. I was starting to loose hope that i would get the bindings that i was so set on getting, regardless i kept searching. I eventually came across a few threads claiming sierra snowboard had them online for $150, compared the other prices i had seen this was a great bargain. I quickly went over to their website fearing they no longer had this deal ( the thread was a bit old )
I searched for them and found what i was looking for, i clicked on them and the onyl number i saw was $89.99, i immediatly assumed that was the amount of savings you were getting on the bindings (as some online stores show how much you are saving) so i continued to scan for the price but couldnt find it, then i realized that the $89 was the price of the bindings. I was extremely happy and ordered immediatley, fearing every second i waited that they were going to run out (lol). I put in all my info and saw that it would cost me $15 to ship ( im in canada) i was completely fine with this and was about to hit order but my comp froze and i had to restart it. After it restarted i went back to my cart and filled out my info again but this time the only shipping option that popped up was for free shipping (suposed to be for US customers with orders of over $100, i fit into neither of these categories) I clicked on it and hit order and e-mailed sierra snowboard pointing out the mistake and asking how we could fix it. I got my reply and it was not what i expected, they simply said that there records show i wasnt charged for shipping, and thats how it was going to stay.
My already amazing deal turned even more amazing. It said it would take 5-10 business days and based on my previous experiences with shipping, this really ment somewhere between 13-20 (things often get held up at the border) I also expected that there was going to be the usual truckload of taxes i would have to pay (my invaders came with $100 of border taxes and other bullshit expenses, my lacrosse gloves also came with $80 of the same shit)
Well last thursday (5 buisness days after my order) i was sitting at home when i went to answer the door and to my suprise it was the fedex man with my bindings ( i legit didnt expect them for another week), i grabbed my wallet and asked about the brokarge fee's and border taxes and he simply replyed "no taxes", had me sign and was on his way.
I know im probably making a big deal out of bindings, but im very very very happy, not only did i get a fantastic deal on one of the best bindings ever made, i aslo got free internationaly shipping for no apparent reason, great customer service, and complete hassle free shipping.
just thought id share :) Yes i know i have a bad habit of writing books.
