How do you Film?

If your putting together a video or maybe filming for a buddies end of the year video how do you film it?
Do you do laps through the park or do you just set-up on each feature and hike it until some tricks are landed?

Both work. Posting up usually yields the most shots.

I like to choose a the song before I go out shooting, it really helps to fit the shots to the music. Just analyse the song, then plan the filming

I would say posting up is going to be the best route most of the time quality wise. I find that once you start lapping with friends, it just turns into having fun skiing and not getting anything done, its just generally better to keep the skier and filmer on track when you chose a setup and session that for a while. This is just in my experience though.

If you're filming only one or two of your buddies, i like lapping with them, just watch out because they always ask to look at the shots.

Posting up definitely gives you a higher quality of shot in my opinion, but you've gotta commit about a full day for less shots.

Mix it up though, on a really pretty day when everyones stomping there stuff, post up. It'll be worth it.

spot at a time. but i dont like capturing too much footy from one single rail or like one bonk because seeing the same spot and angles over and over gets boring sometimes. but lapping the park is good once in a while

Setting down a tripod or just posting up at a feature is what i prefer. Always try switching up angles every once and a while.

There are a few essential rules that will make a big difference:

- ALWAYS tell everybody you are filming with that they can watch the shots AFTER the day is done, or you will end up spending most of your battery re-playing tricks.
- ALWAYS make sure that you get the full trick in the shot, this can prove to be very difficult with jumps that have steep knuckles. your best bet in tough locations is to get the rider to do the trick twice, but film it from different angles so that you can make cuts when you are editing.
- ALWAYS choose a song that suits the footage or a riders style. Choosing a song is one of the best and hardest parts of editing because its sort of a make-or-break situation...

I have had fun lapping with a tripod. I just go and setup before the rider hits whatever feature they are going to slay. They can get annoyed at my speed sometimes, but the angles are always changing.

from my like 3 short days of filming at stowe i learned one main thing

adapt to the park(s) and how they're set up.  for example, in the big park at stowe you can really only post up and get good shots from the deck of one jump because the run is windy (as in wine-dy), or you can just follow cam.  in the medum park, however, you can set up on the deck of the second jump and get good footage from all 3 jumps and a rail at the top.  in the 'rail garden" under the pipe you can play around with lots of angles because everything is really condensed and hikable.

False, fast follow cams of someone lapping park, get shots on everything from first to last feature.

It all depends on how many people you're filming. If you're only with like 2-3 people, followcaming does work. but with like 8-10 posting up is where its at.
