Attaching two pieces of PVC together

I live in a newly developed area so there are alot of new houses being built which means alot of building supplys are getting thrown out. I just decided(today) i really want to make a PVC rail so i decided to go shopping around for wood and PVC to make a cost free jib. Finding good pieces of wood is no problem, they throw out brand spankin new 2X4's like its yesterdays newspaper. PVC is also relitively easy to come by, the only problem is the pieces are either much too short, un usable due to damage or brand new (im not going to steal). Despite this i managed to find two 7.5 ft pieces (well 6.5ft once i cut passed the cracks they have in them) that are 4" in diameter.

I was wondering if there is any good way to attach two pieces of PVC together. Im aiming for a 10-12ft rail and want to avoid having a gap where the two pieces match. I dont want to cath and edges or anything.

Help is greatly appreciated.

im thinking you can find a connector that will fit inside both pipes and use pvc glue

just put them right next to each other and u shouldn't have a problem there is a tiny gap in mine and i slide over it fine, ive never caught an edge

thid but stick a quater or washer under the uphill rail section so its a tiny drop to the next peice

i dunno if they make connectors but grab another piece thats a smaller (but not too small) diameter and put it between the two and glue it. if it is too big try shaving the insides of the two pieces that you want to connect down.

take a small piece of wood like that could fit in the whole, use lots of tape to make to balls at the ends of the stick slide it in the first pvc not too deep but it has to have snug fit like, tight, then put the little piece of wood in the other pvc pipe and your good, you shouldn't catch an edge.. both piece will be connected..

PVC is cheap, especially the small connectors. Don't bother using pieces of wood, or other hand-crafted connectors, just buy a bag of them at your local hardware store so the pipes will be securely fastened. Then use pipe glue and you're good to go.

Also, PVC pipe sands pretty easily. While you're at the store, pick up a pack of heavy grit sandpaper. Quickly sanding each joint will keep you from catching edges.

Ill try to find something of this sort.

If not i might raise one half slightly like someone suggested, i already thought of that.

If neither ill just put these together and see how it goes, this whole jib has cost me $0 anyway so i dont loose anything.

Just buy a 20' stick and save yourself the hassle of connecting them.

instead of making a 12 foot rail make a flat down PVC rail. be alot better

put the end to end and make the tube on the end slightly below the lip of the first tube. this way you have a cheater when it comes to swaps

you could put a real small drop (as in put like a really really small piece of wood or even bark under one end of the pvc) but this would make the rail directional sorry that's all i came up with...just throwing some ideas out there.

Try this or a piece of any material that will fit in the two pieces snugly and glue it. You could file or shave down the outside edges of the pipes where they connect so you don't catch.

make a rail that like drop as in has to levels. have you ever seen a box like were thers one box and then it drops off to another?

I think your refering to a flat-down box. This thought did cross my mid but the location i have for the rail isnt suitable for a down-flat

They only make these up to 2". Trust me, its not worth the time to try and find them. Id just put a shim under the first pipe to make it a little higher than the second.
