i just got home from a week long ski trip with my dad. we started with a day at Courmayuer Italy it was bluebird and the skiing was great, then we headed into Chamonix and skied an amazing run down the monte blanche glacier and hit a great run on the glacier at the grandes montes. We then skied an easy half day back at courmayuer and drove down to La Grave France and that was amazing. we learned some of the mountain the first day and everythiong is amazing. 7,200 vertical feet, one lift, and everything is good. second day there it was cloudy and snowing we took one run and that was it. and the third and final day there we skied a warm up run then skied 3,000 vertical feet this 3,400 vertical foot coulour that needs a 120 ft reppel to get into, pretty much the greatest run of my life. later that day we drove back up to Verbier Switzeland to meet up with some friends and skied two fairly easy days there had some new snow our last day to finish up our trip. Im so happy i just needed to share with newschoolers. unfortunatley i have to go back to stratton this weekend but thats ok with me. but anyone else have any really good ski trips this year? have any of you been to La Grave because if you havent it definatley is a great place to go, small town, bunch of really good skiers, and amazing terrain.
awesome!
chamonix looks scary as hell. that pic of the peak/bridge/lift? whatever it is, nuts. what the deal with that? i hear about it a lot but dont get it. its the highest lift? or steepest? or some shit
ya i don't get it the tram goes on top of this huge cliff then you walk across the bridge into these like rock tunnels and we took an elavator up to an wasome veiw, it was like being ontop of the world. but your right its scary as hell when you go down you have your skis in one hand and you grab a rope in the other hand and it gets pretty steep. but its sketchy its one rope and on both sides cliffs my skis almost slipped out of my hands because my hands were frozen, that would have been horrible.
you cant actually ski down from there? so its a tourist viewing area, but to get down sucks balls so its really only plausible if youre young and fit? that line of people in the pic going up/down is all you can do up there?
chamonix i think was rated one of the most dangerous mountains to ride. I went there a few times with my dad when i was younger and we lived in grenoble. it was amazing.
yes you can ski from there but not directly from the top of the tram, you have to hike down a bit to ski, and that line of people is hiking down from the tram to get to the skiable terrain.
