Helmet cams?

I just dont get the big fad with them. Why do people use them its not good to watch. just wondering if anybody else felt the same way. I guess there cheap and easy to use but still very few videos are good with them.   
thoughts?

i can see the appeal, but you wont catch me spending money on one

on a more personal basis, not so much for showing friends, people might like to relive ski trips etc.

when they are used well, i love them. there is this gopro edit from usc in mammoth i guess, and its incredible. its also follow-cams and still shots with the gopro, so its not only ego-shots, but this video is tha bomb and i might go and get one (or the next version of it) for all-purpose.

personally i like it for watching them myself later on, or sharing with a small group who would be interested in the same kind of skiing i do

i also like the angle it creates, i find it more interesting than a video of somebody skiing. it would suck though if everyone took helmet cam videos and posted them all over ski gabber

i'm subscribed to both dana flahr and sage on youtube, they've dropped some beautiful helmet cam footy.
also dana flahrs AK seg in The Massive.

but you're right, for the most part they suck and are crap to watch. people have been using them for a long time now though and the recent increase in availability and quality means any kid with enough money is going to get one.
they look way better in mtb than in skiing.

Yea i guess it would be cool to relive that run later or to even show your friends. But i just dont think any of the videos are that cool to watch, and tons of people love posting helmet cams online.
