When Jon was putting this years JOSS together he didnt have enough faith in BB in the first place to include him in the competition, then after an EPIC x games big air showing he is shitting his pants trying to get BB apart of his contest so that it will (hopefully) be just as good and put JOSS that much more on the map.

Im just fed up with the fact that he has gone SO far out of his way to make it obvious that he wants BB and is trying to influence the vote. He has made at least one thread (and posted in others), made BB's entry video (which is longer than his own rules allow, and only from X games footage), and has shown a total lack of trust in NS to pick a sweet team, ruining what was a sweet opportunity to have an honest collaboration of skiers (the athletes and the voters) representing the NS community.

Jon, quit micro-managing the one aspect that was new and innovative about JOSS this year. You didnt trust the x games big air jump, and now you arent trusting your audience. Have a little faith, and next time keep your hands off the one part you said you would keep your hands off.

Nah, I agree with this thread- the whole point is that team NS is voted for by NSers (granted, I know Jon is technically an NSer aswell...) but I think he should just leave it and trust that the best riders will be picked...

Completely agree, yes Bobby fucking dominated at x games, but to come out and say that he can come to JOSS whatever happens, and then give his video a length advantage over everyone elses is completely unecessary.

 I know theres a good chance he would get voted in anyway, but there are loads of guys making an honest effort to upload banger edits and it seems like a bit of a kick in the balls to them. . .

Bingo.

Jon forced Bobby to sit and watch for over a week last year while everyone else sessioned the contest features when he wasn't part of JOSS, just because it wasn't "official" training time.

If I were Bobby I would tell Jon to take his Lamborghini and drive it up his ass.

Is everyone forgetting another big aspect of JOSS? Partying? I don't know the drinking age in sweden but if its 21 thats something to consider thinking that JOSS is more than just skiing........


EDIT drinking age is 18 so yeah anyone under 18 imo shouldn't go but thats just me having friends that aren't 21 here when we are in summit county and have to stay in.......

The edits give unknowns a chance to step up and get invited, Bobby has already proven he is more than worthy.  I could care less what's "fair", the best people need to be at JOSS.  Period.  Anyone who is worthy of going is going to be there by some means.

I agree, I posted a similar comment in one of Jon's previous posts on this. No doubt that BB killed it in the Xgames this year. But this team is supposed to be a NS team, and I don't think we need to be swayed one way or another by Jon. I think NS will collectively pick some people who will rip it up at JOSS. Karma to you OP.

Bobby Brown slays! But he doesn't slay rails. I gave him a 0/10 because this contest needs people who can slay rails, ESPECIALLY team NS. I totally agree with the thread creator though, it's kind of frustrating because we, the fans, now are voting in a swayed contest.

Yes, BB slays rails harder than me, that is not an accomplishment. JOSS has a high emphasis on urban shots this year. Iin my opinion, BB doesn't have that compared to a lot of the other entries.

i dont know if you guys have been to Are or not, but there are seriously like 2 rails, both of which have been murdered haha (sammy at the first JOSS, henrik, wallisch, simon at last years). i dont think urban will be a huge factor, but there will be a jibyard. still, i think the main focus of this contest is the incredible jumps jon builds. if he wanted to have a contest based on urban, he'd do it in minnesota or something haha. just something i thought you guys should know...Are is like a tiny village, not exactly a metropolis.

either way bobby obviously destroys and would be sick over there.

obviously you would know better then us, but im thinking alot of the "urban" part of the competition will be on "urban" style features built by jon. and i seem to remember jon saying that urban would be 25% of the comp. so yeah urban will matter

erm, all you whine-maestros getting on Jon's back, take a minute and reflect that for 4 years Jon has worked his ass off to put together the best comp of the year. For 4 years he has done a fucking awesome job and without question skiing would not be anywhere near where it is today without Jon and what he has done at JOI and JOSS. Frankly if he wants Bobby, the best doubleflipper in the world at his comp then who the fuck is anyone to question him, regardless of whether or not he might skew the voting.

Do whatever the fuck you want Jon and ignore these fools, and we'll be priveleged enough to witness another mind-blowing demonstration of skiing...

Oh, give me a break. As an NSer, Jon has just as much right as anybody else on here to hype and vote for Bobby. It's not like Jon is choosing Bobby for JOSS, but he's acting as a member of this community which is voting for an NS team.

completely agree with op. Jon shouldnt show any favor towards any of the competitors. seems a bit unfair that he is trying influence NS to vote for someone he didnt think was good enough to be in the original teams. No hate to Bobby B, think hes dope and should probably go anyway but just dont agree with how jon has done all this stuff for him.

I think most of you took what Jon was saying in the complete opposite way of how he meant it.
First off, their was only 1 US team this year which was not changed from last year. Which is why he couldn't have been invited in the first place.
Jon was at X-games and saw the craziness that went down and was so excited about it he wanted to pump up newschoolers on what happened.
One person took it as Jon trying to sway the vote and so everyone jumped on the bandwagon and started skewing the story.
Yes, Jon said he would be there regardless but that it was happened last year.
Everyone ragging on Jon for trying to pump people up on his event and the epic role BB played in X big air need to chill. It is his event and yes he can do what he wants to an extent, but he isn't. He could make another team America or whatever to make sure BB is on a team but he isn't. He was just trying to get people stoked on his competition and Bobby's performances recently.
Quit jumping on the bandwagon and do some research.

jon's not allowed to hype up people he wants, but if some random ns member made a thread hyping someone people probably wouldnt hate.....

but it is BS that hes using his pr0 powers to give him an advantage (extra length video etc.) i think jon trying to get him on team NS is probably gonna lower bobby's chances of making it, people are having an opposite reaction to it...

Its nothing against Bobby. He did, arguably, one of the sickest tricks skiing (and action sports in general) has seen for a while at one of the biggest events in the world. It was epic! Whats annoying here is that Jon jocked him around last year, and didnt invite him again this year. Since JOSS last year Jon has been hinting at a NS team and he pulled through this year which was dope. But after an epic performance from Bobby at X he has come across like he wants to change all the rules in his favor.

If Jon hadnt handled it like he had Im sure Bobby would be voted higher than LJ, but he didnt. I am not the only one who was rather annoyed by this and voted him down (the kid has an awesome career ahead of him, this isnt a make or break for him). You can see it in the votes, from other comments, and in other threads. It was just very poorly handled if you ask me, and obviously, others.

Boom, thank you. Jon isn't the only organizer of JOSS, there is other people involved. Just because he is involved doesn't mean he cant act as an NSer, and hype someone. It's not much different than any of you guys hyping up your boys. That being said I do believe it's a little uncool that BB's JOSS edit is 13 Seconds longer then allowed.

Also, I don't feel that BB should be on Team NS due to the fact that he doesn't seem to have much involvement in the NS community besides the fact he's been on here for a while. He doesn't seem like an NSer he feels like a pro. So i wouldn't vote for him for NS. But he would make a good candidate for America.

My sentiments pretty much exactly. I just think on one hand it is disingenuous to have a voting system for something that sounds novel: "team NS," but then push (really hard) for arguably one of the most talented and dominant skiers today who should be in no matter what... regardless. That holds true with a lot of this, for whom many of the people being propped up (and all I respect) are amazing skiers. I just feel a little something like when mr burns gets all the all stars from the MLB to compete on a pathetic company softball team; it is pretty weak.

secondly, the op mentioned that jon doesnt have faith that ns will pick a good team. and fuck neither do i. a high majority of people are going to vote on an edit of there favourite skier no matter how good/shit their entry is.

QUESTION: Had Jon not mentioned a word about his wanting to bring Bobby Brown to JOSS on Team NS, would BB's selection on the team even been a question?

I mean really... wouldn't Bobby be an absolute shoe-in after his performance at X, which only served to punctuate his already solid rep as one of the top park skiers? Jon's endorsement only served to create controversy around Bobby's candidacy. Hell, I think if Jon really did not want Bobby at his comp, this would have been his best move (although I don't for a second think this).

On an unrelated note, why didn't Bobby submit a video for himself? Not that it matters, I'd vote for him regardless of who put it together..

Wrong, Im voting for kids that dont do dubs every day. why? because its Team NS, i want to see the kids that never get a chance to film or even hit big jumps but have all there single tricks dialed down perfectly with multiple grabs so when they get to the big stuff they can throw dubs and we can watch these kids with so much potential use it. No hate on Bobby, he deserves to be in! but he's already got it made for his skiing career, and he already hits and films on massive private jumps , how is Joss an experience of a life time then? he'll just have to wait for next year to be on a real team if he doesn't get voted this year.

Guess what, no one gives a shit about rails compared to huge jumps. I'm glad Jon is getting BB in and not relying purely on NS incase people vote in knobs who spin like a top of rails but look awful on huge jumps.

according to the joss site the pints willbe handed out accordingly:

Style tricks (16 points max)
Tech tricks (16 points max)
Urban (16 points max)
Filming overall (32 pints max)

That means that urban should have 16/96=0,17 => 17% of the judging points. Should be intresting to see how the jibyard that jon as built look like.

most definitely, ive been to ostersund. but fact of the matter is, you have to be available to hit jons features at any given time, so when the weather is good, wind is good, and everything is prepped, you can be there. plus i dont have a car over there, or lights, generator, drop in, etc. its a bit more challenging than you think.

and the closest thing to a rail feature in team canada's video last year was the one my helmet slid...

for sure urban can be important, but in the end, why send a kid halfway across the world to hit rails when jon builds the best jumps EVER.

just my thoughts.

I think some of you guys are not seeing this from the “grown up” perspective….

Ultimately, Jon Olsson is a business man….  And at the end of the day….  JOSS is a BUSINESS Venture for the Jon Olsson BRAND, his name is all over it!

If I were him….  I too would be doing everything in my power to get BB to the event… you know why? The same reason I’d get Wallisch and Dumont etc…..   BB pretty much became the hottest name in Freeskiing overnight after X….  no doubt he has been inundated with lucrative offers….   Everyone wants a piece of Bobby Brown…. Bobby Brown suddenly now ups the profile of your event x100…..  

You see, it’s not only the skiers that travel to JOSS – it’s all their sponsors and sponsors $$ that is attached with the stickers on their helmets and the clothes they’re wearing, the drinks companies and “national chain stores” that they endorse… f*ck me – it’s Jerry Maguire!!!  Remember people, it’s not Show-Friends…. It’s Show-business… 

So yeah, I can see how some of the stuff about this may come across as “unethical” or whatever to you guys… but If I was Jon Olsson, I’d be doing exactly the same thing….  

Call me cynical….  But that’s just the way the world works….  Which is why I never ever wanted to work in any ski related industry… that way, skiing remains mine… and personal and fun, not a job or something I rely on for $$.
