I am curious. are the actions and beliefs portrayed in the bible all byproducts of the time?
for example, the acceptance of slavery, is this condoned because midst the time period, slavery was a common practice?
if the bible were to be written today, would it relate to common matters, such as rape, theft, murder, etc. with a more negative connotation?
one post that stuck out to me was written by arabian, this is just a mere segment of it, but its what stuck out to me
We are talking about a religion that didn't allow blacks to marry because they were unclean.
That is responsible for the deaths of millions.
That condones slavery.
That believes that war is justifiable,
That seeks to deny the pleasures of life to Billions worldwide.
i know this is a fairly moot point in the grand scheme of things, but would the equal rights of blacks and other minorities be almost glorified, as they are in this day and age by so many, trying to "make good" for oppression so many have experienced, and continue to experience to this day?
so much of the bible is disregarded, or frequently discussed and looked down upon, depending on your beliefs. this is because the majority of citizens in this country, to a degree, have a sense of decency, can differentiate between whats right and wrong, and believe in equality. is it not plausible to think that if the bible were to be modernized, or it was written now, that these modern, publicly accepted beliefs would be stressed? that the love and marriage of all types would be applauded, opposed to blacks not being allowed to marry, due to their "uncleanliness"
i have so much more i want to add, just cant exactly formulate it into well constructed points, seeing as how most of this is already me rambling and expressing my thoughts as they occur to me
i ask that the immature members of this site, the ones who can not maintain a level head while posting a respectful post to all refrain from hitting the post button
i really dont want this to turn into a hate thread, but rather a thread were discussions are made keeping respect for others and their beliefs. please dont make this a religion thread either, i dont give a fuck what you believe in, as long as it it works for you. but if you dare have the audacity to try and tell me what i should or should not believe in, well, fuck you
