Aerials vs. Big Air Debate

Tonight my dad and i were discussing which takes more skill, aerial tricks in the olympics or big air tricks in the xgames/city comps. Of course I thought tricks like the dub misty 14 over a huge gap were harder then penciled-out backflips and spins off vertical jumps. What do you guys think about this?

Some aerials skiers literally can't ski.  Like they learn to stand into the jump and land and that's it.

hmmm
id say it all depends on the trick
i mean some of those aerial gusy do 4 flips and 4 spins, and stomps the landing
id have to say aerials is harder in most cases

I'm not sure if you can compare the two. Obviously they both take a great deal of skill but they're about different objectives. Big air is about tricks and style and aerial skiing is about form. It's kind of like asking newschoolers if snowboarding is harder than skiing. We're all pretty biased in that regard. I'm not sure if you will get a legitimate response for your question. That being said, dub cork 16s ftw

there both different, aerial skiers spend years being gymnists and probably aren't passionate skiers. while freeskiers spend their whole life on snow. doesnt really answer your question though.

Sadly, I think they are pretty similar.  Big air is so much less about style now and much more about spinning/flipping.  Granted, you aren't rigin in the air like an aerialist, but the training is very similar.  If you disagree, look at the King of Style, or any other big air contest that isn't actually a big jump.  Doubles are still being done, and although they aren't bad looking, they are far from stylie. 

And in regards to the discussion that aerialists can't ski, they essentially ski just as much as big air skiers need to.  Drop in, hit a jump, flip and spin, then land.  Its very, very similar.
