I seem to have a little problem on my hands friends....

so ive decided to get this years pontoons

and its my first pair of powder skis and im not sure

what kind of bindings to get. im thinking about getting a pair of

markers but im really not sure.

any suggestions??

im 5'9 about 160

i would say advanced i guess on a scale of 1-3 of harcoreness

it would be like a 2.5 or 3 or so

i got some sth 14 on mine. go with a higher quality binding that is also light weight.

when you say STH "14" does the 14 mean the din? or model make? cause ive never been sure about this.

It means both, the model is the STH 14, and the din goes to 14. They're an awesome binding, that's for sure, I'd vote STH 14 too.

okay thats what i was kind of pointing too. and as for the STH 14's ive heard good reviews about them. how much more could i get those for online??

or you could go for the better ones sth 16 but they are more expensive but have more metal in them so they are basically bomb proof.

I have the STHH16s and they annoyed the hell out of me. You need to ski around with a screwdriver/mulittool to keep tightening the nose piece. I also broke them this summer, the brake piece got ripped off (replaceable) but the binding plate also got bent and mangled (not fixable/replaceable) so I'm not convinced by their durability.The really old Salomon 916s are awesome (don't have the loose nose piece issue). They do weigh a lot but I've had mine for 9 years and aside from looking a bit beaten they're still great.

I've also got Jesters which I like a lot. My sis has Jesters and Griffons and is insistent that the Jesters give a much better response from the ski. I'd have thought they'd be the same apart from the DIN settings but she's adamant that the Jesters are better to the point that she's thinking of pulling off the Griffons and putting on Jesters.

I haven't tried the new turntable bindings but I've got a pair of the old Rossi turntables on some race skis and they great bindings so I'd guess the new turntables should be good too. They on race skis so I haven't beaten them in the same way as a binding on a park ski would get punished but they are solid metal so I doubt they'd have an problem durability wise. I've also found the Fischer bindings that go to 15 (which are the same as the Tyrolia, 4frnt and Head bindings) to be both durable and pretty light. I've go Deadbolt 18s on another ski and my Fischer 15s are just as good as the 18s but lighter and still tough. Of my current bindings its a tie between the Fisher 15s and the Jesters, I'd buy the one I could get the best deal on.

NB I'm a pretty big guy (225-230lbs) so my bindings probably take more punishment than most. I don't need a DIN of 18 on my bindings as I ride on 12-14 but the higher DIN bindings do seem to be a lot tougher. Given your weight I'd think any of the Fisher, 4Frnt, Head, Tyrolia 15 DIN bindings would be great (tough but not too heavy),as would the Jester. I'd be surprised if the new turntable bindings aren't great as I'd expect them to be at least as good as the old turntable race bindings (which are/were the best bindings for a race ski ever IMO). But seeing as I haven't tried them I can't really recommend them. I'd be interested to know if anyone has the old turntables and has tried the new ones and what they think of the them.

Or you could go with Marker, which I think are the factory recommended bindings for K2. The Marker Duke would be a super solid binding (din 6-16) or if you were planning on doing any climbing.

Theres your problem right there. u have the old verisons of them. have u even tried the new versions??? they are wayy better.

^ The 9 year old Salomon's are still great! Its the new Salomons that I don't like. I have/broke the STH 16s from last season. I got them because a) I got a great deal and b) I thought they'd be like my nine year old 916s...they weren't

i hear the sth bindings are a bit on the heavy side.  the salmon z bindings would be great for powder, they're superlight.  i think getboards.com is having a sale on bindings right now too so check them out

yea but why would he need the sth?  i dont know much about pow but it seems like the z series would be all he needs since its on a pow ski

But anyways, just get a pair of turntables and you won't be disappointed.  You can probably find a pair for under $100 in the buy/sell/trade forum.  They are bomber, relatively light, and never prerelease, what more could you ask for? 

FKS gets my vote.

If I could've found a cheap pair for my pow skis I would've done it. But, I settled for a pair of Tyrolia Peak 12s which haven't disappointed.

Definitely not z series. I've had the misfortune of using z bindings and they were so bad I didn't even think to mention them. In fact my experience with Z bindings was so traumatic that I've repressed my memories of them till now.

I won a pair of Suspects at Momentum the summer before last and got given Z bindings with them. I've read some bad stuff about the Suspects on this site but I thought they were a good ski. However, all the negatives on this skis are about the Suspects durability. This was never an issue for me as with the Z bindings on them as all I had to do was look at a jump or rail and I'd double eject! The skis never had the chance to delam because the bindings would eject me before they really got hit!

I gave the skis and bindings to a mate after 6 days on them because the combo was so bad for me. I gave them him because I knew he wouldn't be pushing the bindings ability because he's crap at skiing (I thought the skis being fairly stiff wouldn't be an issue for him as he's 6'10 so pretty heavy and omre than capable of flexing them). I wouldn't wish those Z bindings on anyone who skis even moderately hard..
