I was diagnosed with a bad sinus and ear infection on Wednesday. They put me on amoxicillin and told me I should have no pain by Friday. Instead of getting better, it's gotten much, much worse. It's now Saturday night and I'm getting fucking owned. I get super dizzy when I stand up and my sinuses hurt so bad that it kills to bite down and chew food. It's like my teeth and upper gums are sore too. My ears feel clogged, and there's a subtle, constant ringing. I've got a splitting headache in my sinuses/forehead, along with a bad back ache. Also, strangely enough, it hurts to piss. Not so much a burning, but a very uncomfortable pressure.

Before you say, "Go to the doctor, and don't ask NS medical questions," I fully plan on going on Monday. I'm at an away track meet right now, and won't get back to school till tomorrow night. Also, I have notoriously bad sinuses.

Any ideas?

Haha thanks man, but I'm up in West Point, NY right now. Not looking forward to the ride home tomorrow.


And to the kid who asked if I have been taking my prescriptions: yeah, I haven't missed one. One in the morning, midday, and evening. That's why I'm so freaked out. It seems like it's not doing anything.

Probably.

But yeah, I get super bad sinus infections and stuff and sometimes your jaw and teeth can hurt so bad it feels like your teeth are about to fall out of your head. Definitely sounds like your sinus' are fucked.

Call the 24 hour on call nurse/doctor through your primary care doc. Or go to your schools health center. I would say probably stop taking your medication (after you talk to a doc about it first)

It really is crazy when someone can write down exactly what you yourself have gone through.

I get really bad sinus headaches also. Every doctor I've gone to just tells me it's something I've got to deal with. Anyway, I really think you're just sick and have a sinus infection at the same time. I would always feel the way you are right now before I got sick. When you're body has an infection it starts building up a ridiculous amount of mucus to keep more bacteria getting in. So your body can just focus on the infection. Unfortunately this makes your sinuses get hella fucked up.

You're just gonna have to ride it through. To be honest I would just try to find some strong painkillers and go to sleep. It was always hard for me to get to sleep with such bad headaches but when I was asleep it was the only time I felt better.

Also you need some better antibiotics than amoxicillan. It's not strong enough (at least it wasn't for me) to combat such a bad sinus infection. My doc gave me a strong penicillin one time that worked well and something called a z-pack another time that also worked.

For temporary relief I'd say go get some Mucinex D but I doubt any pharmacy is gonna be open on the weekend. Mucinex D is the shit. It's the Mucinex you have to fill out forms to get and they keep it behind the counter. Every time I feel a sinus headache coming on I just take a dose or two and the headache fades away.

Hope this helps man, I know what you're going though and it sucks.

-Sinus Infection
-Cold Virus
-Mono
-Allergies
-Dry Piss
-And possibly the flu

Yea definitely call your doctors help line. Not incinuating anything, but don't try to be the tough guy, that shit sounds pretty serious. Plus its all around your head so you don't wanna fuck with that.

You should find a new pharmacy. I don't know what area you live in but the ones around here, including the one I work at, are open for pretty lengthy hours on the weekends.

I guess I was mainly talking about chain store pharmacies. My regular pharmacy at school and back home are always open, but whenever I go to target/wal-mart/meier on weekends, the pharmacy is closed. At least it seemed like it to me the last time I tried to pick up an extra box of Mucinex before I went back to school.

You could possibly be allergic to amoxicillin. 

Do not use this medication if you are allergic to amoxicillin or to any other penicillin antibiotic, such as:

  • ampicillin (Omnipen, Principen);

  • dicloxacillin (Dycill, Dynapen);

  • oxacillin (Bactocill); or

  • penicillin (Beepen-VK, Ledercillin VK, Pen-V, Pen-Vee K, Pfizerpen, V-Cillin K, Veetids, and others).

Before using amoxicillin, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs (especially cephalosporins such as Ceclor, Ceftin, Duricef, Keflex, and others), or if you have:

  • asthma;

  • liver disease;

  • kidney disease;

  • a bleeding or blood clotting disorder;

  • mononucleosis (also called "mono");

  • a history of diarrhea caused by taking antibiotics; or

  • a history of any type of allergy.

If you have any of these conditions, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take amoxicillin.

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome when using Amoxicillin:

Diarrhea; nausea; vomiting.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Amoxicillin:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); bloody stools; confusion; dark urine; fever, chills, or persistent sore throatClick for larger image; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; seizures; severe diarrhea; stomach pain or cramps; unusual bruising or bleeding; vaginal discharge or irritation; yellowing of the skin or eyes.

depending on what you have, the prescription won't help it go away, just help you feel better. But in this case that doesn't seem to be happening ha ha. Shit like this sucks man, when you get home, sleep till monday and then get checked ha ha.

Malcolm & Michelle & M.Nairn: The weird thing is that I've taken amoxicillin many times before for sinus infections and this has never happened, so I don't think I'm allergic. 

HKizzle: It's our conference championships, and I thought I would be better by now.

karmagod: It's kinda nice to know that someone's gone through this before haha. Based on what they tell me on Monday, I'm definitely gonna ask for some Mucinex D. I've had that before and it helped.

IamLegend: I hope not. That would really, really suck.

I was on WebMD and it looks like I might have sinusitis + the flu or something else. I'm not too familiar with sinusitis. Anyone have any knowledge they can drop on me?

Allergies can develop suddenly.  You are not necessarily born with them, so this could be an allergic reaction to amoxicillin even though it has never happened before.

FUCK I HAD THIS LIKE A FEW WEEKS AGO.

i think it's tonsilitis. i had it and a passed out a few times from my head being too dizzy when standing up, it hurt to chew food, my sinuses were so sore, so this sounds like exactly what i had.


hope this helped.

btw, i've been sick like a fucker for the past month (missed three out of the last four weeks of school), so it could be something else that i'm getting confused with, but I'm almost certain it's this.

Well I haven't died yet. Made it back to school in one piece by taking lots and lots of pills. Hittin' up the Health Center tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get this shit straightened out.

are your sure your not allergic to the meds your on?

 i had a super bad sinus/ear infection, they put me on antibodies and every day after i got on them i felt more like death until about a week later i broke out in hives everywhere(apparently i could have actually died). Finaly went back to the doctor and they gave me steroid shots to keep my throat and a different antibiotic. really not a fun experience

 I would seriously go go the doctor. alot of people are allergic to that shit

all the symptoms you've described (aside from the painful urination) sounds just like an acute sinus infection. i've had them before and am currently getting over one and my teeth and eyes still hurt.

take mucinex 12 hr 600mg once every 12 hrs to keep your sinuses from swelling and 3 advil every 8 hours for the pain, i found that helped the most with the extreme sinus pressure. otherwise i don't really think there's much you can do until you see a doctor...good luck, i know how much it sucks
