Will skiing ever be more popular than snowboarding amongst young people oneday?

a couple of years ago snowboarding was what everyone did in dubai. After a while they all saw the dope ski edits and now everybody skis. There are something like 10 NSers in dubai. This just shows that the trend is shifting.

Certainly skiing is becoming more popular.  However here (Scotland) people still don't see it as cool as snowboarding, I hardly ever any twin tips at Glenshee/The Lecht and still see a fair number of Snowbladers with still around the same number of snowboarders around.  A lot of snowboarders don't really like skiers that much either, I've been started on by one (really drunk) local (in my home town) for wearing what is a snowboard jacket whilst I'm a skier (apparently is his eyes that is allowed).  Was actually quite funny.

I also noticed that in high school Bridger Bowl was about forty percent snowboarders. By the time I graduated college, in '08, it was less than ten percent. It seemed in high school most of the people I knew that rode, weren't that hardcore and only went a few times before fading away. When I moved to Seattle, I found out it's more like 60 percent snowboarders. About 95% of those being gape-boarders though.

Skiing has really started to take off. I started skiing 11 years ago and I remember never seeing any young people skiing, just snowboarding. Now most of the places I ski seem to be pretty equally populated with younger boarders and skiers.

yeah all of the rail jams i went to at the begining of the season were pretty much all skiers and a couple of snowboarders. then we went to vermont for this rail jam and we were the only skiers along with 3 other kids

damn you kids are young. I've watched snowboarding start from scratch, I basically didn't have a choice but to ski in the mid 80's, go way up (at it's pinnacle in about 1999) and come back down to reality again. It's pretty much come full circle.

When you ask: "Will skiing ever be more popular than snowboarding amongst young people oneday?" I'm thinking that it barely ever was more popular. They had 10 years of glory until skiers really turned up the volume (thanks SHANE, MD, et al!!!).

i think there is so much creativity and uniqueness to freestyle skiing that the general public doesnt get to experience as much as snowboarding and i think that would be really sweet for the public to embrace our sport for what it has become today..rather than the general idea of old people skiing groomers

Keep it to the core the reason boarding has gotten bad is cause so many people do it to be cool and dont love it.

many people ski, but snowboarding is just more popular. more people know of shaun white than tanner hall or simon dumont. and i swear every year i look at snowboarding equipment, its generally cheaper. and being someone who loves snowboarding and is somewhat broke, its tempting.

any one whos thinks this is dumb. stop thinking that skiing is exclusive. people have been doing it for a looooong time. im sure half of your moms ski. and your sisters. stop thinking freestyle skiing is some godsend to only a few. granted most the people in the world dont ever snap into a pair of skis in their life, i genuinely feel bad for those people. skiing is one of the greatest things you can do, ever. there isnt another experience like it. if the general public can start to embrace freestyle skiing for what it is (REAAAAL SKIIIING) then only good things will come to our sport.

Here in my part of NZ id say skiing is a lot more popular with 19 and under. with people in their 20s however it seems to be fairly even among the 'park' riders but still more skiers all round.

Here in Quebec, freestyle skiing obviously surpassed snowboarders. Twin-tips are now a trend(At my school, everyones buy twin-tips, freestyle skiers or not) and the "Thug" image of freestyle skiing is more appealing to youngsters than the growing gypsie style of snowboarders.

i am primarily a snowboarder who is slowly getting back into skiing, and over the past 2-3 years I have noticed a huge increase in park skiing, mostly thanks to communities such as NS. It's amazing to see the talent that some of these young kids are bringing to the slopes, and it has helped bridge the old gap between skiers and snowboarders. I also think it has helped the two sports progress by learning off of one another. I see on a weekly basis how skiing is slowly becoming just as "cool" as snowboarding.

Kids will switch because of the thug style. Skiers have become the more thug ones, I kind of view a majority of boarders as gapers now...

Snowboarders with tall tees look so gay, it makes me wonder how we got it from them in the first place.
