Foreign math teachers - rant-ish?

but I hate having foreign math teachers. Math is hard enough as it is, and it becomes harder when you can't understand what he or she's trying to explain

Probably because there is such a small importance placed on Math and Science in American schools.  In the rest of the world, however, those are some of the most prestigious areas that students can study.

Here, people just care about taking the easiest major than can get away with to get a good job or make it through college.  People don't even go to college for the education anymore.  Have you ever looked at Grad School statistics?  A huge percent of people are foreign, and that is because they can't get American students.

I am a Chemistry major, going for my BS degree.  If I graduate with a 3.0 or higher, I can literally go to almost any Grad School around the country (other than Ivy League) for FREE and they will give me a $25000 dollar stipend on top of that for me to live off of.  No loans, no nothing. All they want is me (an American white male) to be at their Grad School cause they can't get American students to apply.

On top of that, the US universities are experiencing what is known as a reverse brain drain.  So, the people that we DO get to go through our Grad Schools (mostly foreigners) can't get their Green Cards renewed after they are done with school and have to go back to their native countries.  So, we educate them on OUR DOLLAR, and then the government refuses to let them stay.  How fucked is that?

The American education system is seriously going down the shitter.  Good thing we spent hundreds of billions of dollars bailing out the Auto Industry, and are leaving our schools (especially the Research programs in Science and Math) to rot.

in my college math class the professor was an american but my TA was soooooooooooo Chinese it was amazing. she knew her shit for sure but she was just really quiet and had a pretty thick accent.

In other countries they place a greater emphasis on subjective subjects. We had an indian student come in and talk about school life back home and he said that they would have group projects assigned every weekend where they literally had to work the whole weekend and then present on monday. it was crazy. they just have such a deeper understanding of math and science than we do and teach. The chinese ta i had had such a different understanding than math that i have never seen before. 

there was something on the news about how american kids only get 180 days of school whereas other countries have 220 or more

Have had all sorts of non-English speaking professors. My Physics professor was by far the worst, we started a list of all the nonsensical phrases she would say and it got to be over three pages long.

that why i took math at a community college over my freshmen/sophomore summer

my first year math of finance teacher was english, but legitimatly had no idea what he was talking about. He would write out a whole chalk board equation, take a step back, and say "ooh jeeze thats not right!" and erase the whole thing.

Also, how come EVERY business professor is fucking japanese or chinese? There HAS to be some people with mba's out of work right now who speak english (not engrish no offense) who could teach a fuckin business course for some extra cash till a better opportunity comes around...

It's so maddening. I feel like the foreign kids in my classes have a better chance than I do just because the professors are all from the countries they hail from. How fucked is this shit? I'm going to be so glad to leave california... shit's fucking going down the shitpipe FAST.

It's not just California dude, I went to Penn State and had tons of foreign teachers. I had a Russian math teacher too, it was terrible. On top of that, I was an IT major, so almost every tech class I had was taught by an asian who could barely speak English. I actually had one professor who we would have to write questions out on paper to communicate with him sometimes...

maybe youd get english speaking teachers if you started talking english... its fucking maths!!! not math!!!

math is the most worldwide known/same subject. it doesnt matter what language you learn it in its all the same because its numbers. which is why it has the most foreign teachers. (not counting a foreign teacher teaching his/her own native language)

My Cal 1 teacher was fresh off the boat from India, got a 29
Cal 2 I had a Russian teacher and i managed a 64
the accents make it so hard to understand

All i can say to this is that i had a Spanish teacher from Spain in high school and she could barely speak English and couldn't teach to save her life. What was my school thinking????

Oh, I dont doubt it. It's just probably a little more extreme in California because we have 32 public universities in the state, as well as over 109 junior colleges. add in the private schools, and it probably racks up to over 170 colleges and universities in the state. Yet,there's still not enough room for everyone, tuition has started to skyrocket (10k for instate tuition at a UC? are you joking me? a decade ago, it was about 5-6k) and the percentage of foreign students has started to explode recently as well (I basically need to know Korean and Mandarin just to get around my campus... it's disgusting) because they're so attracted to our system's prestige... and what of all the schools I pay taxes to?
Yeah. I cant even transfer to them because I dont have a high enough GPA (I have a 3.1 and it's not high enough to get into any UC school, nor is it high enough to get into the majors i want at any school with a well established film/video production program such as Long Beach St. or San Diego State - however, if I was out of state, or international, I'd get in and be given a minor scholarship just because i'd be paying a little bit more - it's fuckin fraudulent, man.

Meanwhile, I've gotten into this list of schools in the west in the last 2 application runs I've turned in - Washington St. Montana. Eastern Wash. Southern Oregon. Oregon St. Arizona St. UNLV. UNR. and Colorado. Yet, can I afford out of state for those schools? nope. It's a fucking joke. I've had to file independent on my taxes, and lose the health-care that would otherwise be awarded through my father's insurance, just in order to POTENTIALLY get enough financial aid to afford college. My parents are risking losing their house, so it's not like they can help me much, and I cant get a job that pays even 10% of what i'd need.

Haha, rant much? But seriously. This state's SO fubar right now when it comes to its education system...

Yeah man, at least as far as Washington goes, if you live in-state, at least 5 years ago when I was applying for colleges, I had several friends with 3.7+ GPA's and good SAT/ACT scores get denied from UW while a friend with Oregon residency who applied with a 3.4 GPA and a good SAT but no other extra curricular activities get in. Probably helped he was Asian but still, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to get into the top schools of the state you live in. Spending cuts to schools = more public schools looking to increase revenue via out of state tuition. It blows.

seriously. How did I get into Wazzu with a 3.1? I have a friend who's from Everett who couldnt get into there with a 3.3.

Ive only had foreign teachers for my econ classes, and all non-business TA's.

engineering profs are also really foreign. strangest accent i've seen was a guy from quebec who lived in the uk for a few years.
