So I just got back from Japan....killer trip. It rained for a bit which sucked, but we got to wander around and see some cool stuff, then ski some really nice pow.

i guess japan is supposed to have the most ski resorts per capita in the world. that looks so awesome though man. i went to ireland this summer, way better than the US. everyone is just fucking nice to you

People were so nice, and food was so good! Skiing was pretty cheap too (compared to Australia) - We are planning another trip next year, but maybe 2-3 weeks.

That's awesome man.  My trip to Japan was like the greatest week and a half of my life.  We were with my grandma (from Japan, moved to US when she was 20) and my second cousin who is Japanese.  Saw tons of tokyo and took the bullet trains to a few places, also got to see the worlds fair in Nagoya.  Such an amazing country.

yeah japanese food is ridiculously cheap + awesome...love the ramen and the hot coffees from the vending machines (they have as much caffeine as redbull i was told...no wonder i got addicted haha)

Tips:

Learn some of the language, even just hello, thankyou, please etc - helps heaps to get on with the locals
Be nice to the locals - don't be an ass like so many people on holiday
Check out some of the multi passes like "Happo All Mountain Pass" - good deals
Do other stuff apart from ski - you will regret it if you don't
Remember that weather is unpredictable - it might rain but don't sit and sulk - get out and see the country

Food:

Amazing - I don't like fish, yet was happy to eat Yellow Fin sashimi - go figure. Wagyu Beef - nice but not really my thing. I loved the home cooked meals in little pub type places, the ramen bars and okonomi-yaki - amazing. Also Kirin / Sapporo / Asahi beer, sake and Sho Chu (we brought home 3 bottles of Sho Chu).

Hookers: Didn't see any, but wandered into the red light district in Shinjuku - it seemed so nice and safe - I feel more afraid in Melbourne!

Obsidians: Rentals - Hakuba Central Snowsports hooked me up (although didn't really get any park skiing.

If you're thinking about going, just do it. Pay it off later!

I went to Japan last summer.  It was incredible.  If you get the chance to go, do it for sure.

nice report, Japan is amazing, from the culture of Tokyo to the orgasmic super deep pow in Hokkaido  as well as mentioned the incredible food (authentic ramen!!), great beer, sport (sumo, J-League etc..), cute girls and even the weird shit Japanese are into (vending machines for everything) plus new gadgets, must have travel experience for sure.

but from a skier's pov though it's all about the pow haha
