My english class is looking for examples of age discrimination, post up a situation where you feel it's stupid you can't do something because of your age

i think you have to be 25? to rent a car. But if you can get your license at 16/17 and drink at 21, why do you have to wait that long to rent a car? seems silly.

should be able to drink at 18, not 21, like it used to be. Then we wouldn't have so many problems in the USA with a/p and stuff like that. Unless you're from Canada...

renting hotel rooms, in a lot of states you have to be 21. like give me a break you can get married at 18 you just MIGHT need a hotel room at some point.

and i feel like even when i drive 5 under on a lot of roads older people will give me massive dirty looks and like try to take down my plate as i go by, some people even have dived out of the road even when i slow down to fifteen under and pull off to the other side.

Also the view on drugs and alcohol and the way it's taught to kids is wrong. Middle and high school: "Drugs and alcohol are bad and WILL kill you. Never under any circumstances drink. Ever." Kids should be taught how to drink responsibly by their parents, that way, they can make smarter decisions and won't be afraid to call them if things go bad.

Try getting a job at 16 with todays unemployment rate..... hahaha Not fun.

You can't deliver pizza until you're 18.... you can't be a census taker until you're 18... you can't take most paid surveys until you're 18... .you can't donate sperm/blood plasma until you're 18... you can't watch porn before you're 18 -_o although you can get married before then.... theres alot more Essamples... quite a few those are fairly understandable, but the fact that it is based on age and not a case-case responsibility level irritates me.... that I am treated as if I have the same or worse responsibility as someone that drinks and drives every weekend just because of my age..... what the fucks

Employment seems ageist. Just because someone is your senior does not mean they are more qualified or better abled to do a job. Drinking ages are ageist and highly dependent upon the quality of individual for safety.

You could talk about the history of the arbitrary "18 is suddenly mature adult status" myth.

there`s the issue that growing older is negative in `modern scoeity`, so people are under going more plastic and cosmestic surgeries and all these age defying creams and etc. and models get the boot at a certain age

its fucking bullshit.

if you are under 18 you have to have a parents permission before they can do pretty much anything to you at a doctors office/hospital. i had an appointment to get my swine flu vaccine (and a tetanus shot and some other shit) and they wouldn't give me shit until one of my parents showed up and said it was OK. in the end i argued with them enough that they would let my parents just call them and say that i had their permission to get the shot. i was pissed. my parents were pissed. it was fucking gay.

if you are still a minor police need your parents permission to search/confiscate your stuff. i think. so if you are under 18 and they search your car, with your permission, its still illegal search and seizure because your parents didnt say it was cool.

^^ im not sure on the last one. i could be wrong. im all for it if its true though, its another level of protection for minors. so not really discrimination.

it should be noted that you dont have to be 21 to rent hotel rooms everywhere. (ive rented before, but they were just regular/cheap hotels) not checking into the Marriott presidential suit. lol

the car rental thing is IMO bullshit. Ide travel to so many more places if i could actually leave the airport once i got there.

young lifeguards. parents think that a 17 year-old doesn't have the ability to save their child. Parents don't feel safe giving the guard consent even though the guard has way more training than the parents.

where my dad works, they can pay 1 and 3/4 kids straight from college to do the same job because my dad is a "senior" developer. now hes all worried because his contract is coming to an end soon and he doesn't know if there going to keep him or let him go and hes expensive for his company

How about the arbitrary ages of 18 and 21 used to denote adulthood and drinking ability, respectively? I was a responsible drinker by 19, but I still don't consider myself an adult, and I'm 20. How can a young man be convicted and tried as an adult for murder, but not be allowed to drink a beer?
